View Full Version : Can't edit mpegs from Nexus-s DVB card

I'm having major problems editing mpegs created from ProgDVB using a Hauppauge Nexus-S DVB card.

On any video over about 30 minutes long I can't edit and save. I get different errors. Sometimes it's a audio ring overflow, others it's the video ring overflow.

The raw videos seem to play fine on the computer using ProgDVB or MS Media player. I just can't edit and save them.

I'm using the 225 beta build, the current non beta release version also didn't work.

I really like VideoReDo and plan on purchasing it very soon. It works great with videos recorded using Snapstream with a PVR-350.

I would be very greatful if it could be made work with the Nexus-S.

Can you isolate the problem down to a small 10-20mb clip (use the Tools>Trim to do that). Then you can upload the clip to our FTP site: ftp://videoredo:videoredo@ftp.drdsystems.com/

In the meantime, please do this:
1) Clear the log file.
2) Turn on debug (Tools>Options>Advanced Stream).
3) Edit your video as you normally would. You might just want to re-mux (save the entire video without performing any cuts).
4) After the buffer overflow, email (as an attachment) or upload the log file. It won't be very large.

Finally, did the program file come directly from the Nexus card or was it converted from TS or PVA format first?

It came directly from the Nexus card recorded as a mpeg from ProgDVB.

ProgDVB will allow recording in either mpeg or pva.

I'll get you the the rest of the info tonight when I get home.

Thanks for the help, this is the main reason I'll be purchasing, the quick response to problems and the desire to fix them.

Dan,

I uploaded a clip of the video and the videoredo log file to the upload folder into a folder called bigdaddy.

Thanks for the help,

Charlie

OK BigDaddy, I found the problem. Technically, what's going on is that that there are few frames in the file marked with the 3:2 pulldown bits. Who knows why, maybe its the nature of our Sat. providers mpeg2 encoder, or the software you are using to off-load from the card. Which SAT provider do you use? Are you in the US or Canada?

Anyway, the 3:2 pulldown logic in VideoReDo made some assumptions about 3:2 pulldown that your file didn't adhere to. Primarily that 3:2 pulldown would be somewhat consistent, like it is on DVDs. How quickly do you need a fix? I'll need a couple more days to get PVA support ready for the next beta build and I'd like you to test that as well. Can you wait?

Sure Dan, I can wait. The important thing is that it can be fixed.

I'm betting that you will have others with this same problem.

To be honest I didn't really expect you to get on it this fast anyway. ;-)

I guess I'd better pay up and register now, because my trial runs out today or tomorrow.

Thanks again for the help.

Charlie

Bigdaddy, Beta build #226 has been uploaded. It fixes the problem you were having with the Nexus generated file. Also, it should be able to open PVA files directly. I would appreciate if you could give that feature a try.

Dan,

I'm still getting video ring overflow with the mpeg files generated with the Nexus card. The two files I tried were just over 2 hours long.

I tried remuxing the entire file and also tried just cutting a piece (aprox 1 hour) of the file and got the same result with both.

Now, for the good news. The PVA support seems to be working great. I only had about a half-hour long PVA file on the computer and VRD worked great on it. I need to do some additional testing to be sure but at this point the results are very promising. Thanks!

Dan, I sent you a email reply this morning, however I'm not sure that it got through. I'm having some minor problems with that account.

I'll give you a brief rundown here. The two mpegs referenced in the email, have problems. I went back and looked at them and there is video missing from both of them. I'm not sure how they got that way because they haven't been edited. It must have been a software problem with ProgDVB or a hardware glitch with the Nexus card.

I'm going to record a couple of new mpegs and test them tonight.

As for the PVA test; I recorded a 2+ hour PVA video and edited it, somewhere in the second hour it developed a audio sync problem. It appeared that the sync was off about a second or so. The only edits in the file was a short cut at the begining, in the middle, and at the end. These cuts were about 3 to 4 minutes each.

I am going to try to remux the entire file again before the edits to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help on these problems, I really appreciate it.

Bigdaddy, Build 226 has a problem with cuts, and since that is the only version that can edit PVA files directly you are somewhat out of luck. If you still want to try Build 226, I suggest you switch to GOP editing as that should be OK. Hope to get Build 227 out shortly which will fix the sync issue.

I didn't get your email this morning, so you might want to send it again.

I'm curious about why you are using ProgDVB. Didn't the Nexus card come with its own capture software?

Yes, but the software that came with the nexus doesn't support the plugins that I want to use.
