View Full Version : Audio Sync issues are a Pox

I've got a video/audio sync issue that has been drving me mad since I first started using VideoRedo, and I am at the end of the rope.

I have read, and tried, the solutions thus far presented in the forum relating to audio sync issues, but nothing works thus far. I have even downloaded 1.5.5.124, but there is no relief.

Here's my scenario: I record all of my video from TV on a standalone Panasonic DMR-E30S onto DVD-RAM, and convert on the PC using TMPGenc DVD Author (which accepts VOBs and converts them to MPEG-2).

The converted MPEG-2 files are then imported into VideoRedo to remove TV commercials.

The first edit to remove the commercial is perfect. Every edit after that has audio running behind video.

VideoRedo options selected:
1. Enable frame-accurate editing.
2. Output streams for Movie Factory 2 (though I rarely use it).

Solutions tried:
1. Loading smaller MPEG-2 files into VideoRedo (no problem, since TMPG breaks each VOB into 5 MPEG-2 files. I used the VideoRedo tool for sync of video/audio for each MPEG-2. Result: When joined together, audio sync is still off (except for the first edited MPEG-2 file).
2. Conversion of VOB files to MPEG-2 by using TMPG Xpress 3.0 instead of DVD Author. Result: The same audio sync woes as (1) above.

Notes:
1. TMPG Author has MPEG-2 cutter which works flawlessly on these same MPEG-2 files converted from VOBs; no audio sync problems. (However, Author is only 12-frames accurate ... )
2. I also purchased Womble MPEG Video Wizard 2003 ($119, by the way), and the same sync issues were enountered (waste of money, for sure, and no forum to discuss problems like this, either)

System:
* AMD Athlon XP 2600+ at 2.08GhZ;
*DirectX 9b; 512MB memory; Hard drive: 120 GB;
*NVIDIA GeForce4 Integrated GPU display adapter and NVIDIA nForce2 memory controller;
* XP Home; Computer: HP Pavilion, model a220n.

Are there any parameters in VideoRedo I need to adjust, or is TMPG screwing up VideoRedo-generated files? I really need some help here.

hi robguy,

here's my experience: tmpgenc isn't perfect. i often get audio sync issues with it. i wouldn't use it to cut anything, neither would i use dvd author to cut anything. i mostly get my audio/video out of sync. mpeg2vcr is better, videoredo - by now - the best concerning audio sync issues, as far as i tested it for my needs. and movie factory isn't gut either, it can get your files out of sync as well, especially when it demuxes and remuxes your files (i personally hate it when programs don't use the initial vob).

question i have: aren't your recorded files already editable in videoredo? what format do they have, aren't they vobs? or mpeg2 files? try just renaming them to mpg or vob and cut them.

other question is, if your audio is always out of sync or if it's running out of sync in time, meaning the longer the movie, the more out of sync. if sync is always same, i suggest to test videoredo's built in audio shifter, maybe it helps.

regards
harry

my personal favorites by now: videoredo for cutting and dvd-lab (pro beta) for authoring.

Roboguy, I assume you mean 1.5.5.224? Here are the first steps to solving these sync issues:

1) If you aren't using Movie Factory turn it OFF. DVDMF2 has a bug in it which VidoReDo compensates for, but it might affect future edits.

2) Clear your log file, VideoReDo.Log, and turn on Debug (Tools>Options>Advanced Stream).

3) Re do your edits and then email us the log file, as an attachment, to support@videoredo.com.

4) We suggest you save your edits as a project file so that the problem / solution can be easily replicated.

You may also want to test out Build 227 which has much improved timing logic, I'll know better after looking at your log file. Build 227 will be posted, probably tomorrow, and fixes a bug in Build 226.

I will follow your suggestions, and e-mail the results later this week. And yes, I meant 1.5.5.224.

If build 227 is available by the time you re-do these edits, please give that version a try. It has significantly improved tming and sync capabilities.
