Anybody know how to import a file from this camcorder? Format is MPEG-2 and when I take the files straight from the camcorder and change the extention to .MPG the Elecard MPEG2 Player reads it fine.

But VideoReDo doesn't recognize it.

Any suggestions?

Hello Steve,

I'd be glad to take a look at the file. Best thing to do is to upload 5-10mb of the file to our FTP site: ftp://videoredo:videoredo@ftp.drdsystems.com/. To extract a byte-for-byte copy from your file, start VideoReDo and select Tools > Create and Copy Source File.

I did a quick search on the net and couldn't find anything specific about the SV-AV100 files. Does look like a neat camcorder. Do you like it?

Funny you should ask. I just researched this on the Internet, having just purchased the camera. (Is it the coolest camera ever or what? A video camera smaller than a pack of cards! Amazing!)

Anyway, the answer is that you need a codec. Specifically, the name of the codec is Stinky's MPEG-2 Codec 1.2.0.79. It can be found at http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat...1-2-2-40.shtml.

After you get the codec installed, just change the extention from MOD to MPG.

Actually, after you install the Codec you don't even have to rename the files if you associate MOD with Windows Media Player (AFTER installing the Codec)

To do that:

Windows Explorer > Tools > File Types > New > Type in "MOD" > Change (under "opens with" > Select Program from List > Windows Media Player

I can tell you that VideoReDo WORKS PERFECTLY with this file format (after installing the codec), which is great since I have read on the Internet that others had problems with other video editing software and the weird Panasonic proprietary format (even after changing the extension).

It would be cool if somehow VideoReDo could recognize the MOD extension as a video file, but you can still get VideoReDo to locate the file by changing in the "TYPE OF FILE" box from MGEG to ALL FILES.

Now a question for you. Have you found a media card reader which works with the Panasonic SD card? For some reason, mine won't read from the card.

Can you repost the link, it seems to have been truncated.

You can associate VideReDo with any file type by using the File associations dialog in Tools > Options.

I'm confused, VideoReDo uses its own internal codecs. What does this external codec do?

I have no idea what the codec does, I'm just happy to have found it.

Try:
http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/11/2/2/11-2-2-40.shtml

I saw the "File Association" in VideoReDo and did try that before. The behavior I am talking about is the following:

In VideoReDo, File > Open File >

At that point you get a dialog box which indicates:
"Type of File: MPEG File (*.mpg *.mpeg)"

To get to the MOD files, the user has to change the file type to
"All Files (*.*)"

Its a minor thing, but I was just saying it would be cool if the user could add to the file types which were recognized initially as video (MPEG) files. In my example, it would then recognize MPEG and MOD files.

This would only help people who have this particular camera so its probably not worth making a change.

Something you can do that really speeds up the work flow is just drag and drop from Windows Explorer onto VideoReDo. This way you don't even have to bother with File/Open etc. Works great!

Also, even if VRD isn't running and you have a desktop icon for it, you just drag and drop onto the icon and VRD will automatically launch with your file loaded.

Try it.

The codec was originally used by sharp in their internet viewcam, the audio is a gsm codec, As far as as I'm aware the sharp codec is still available and may be better.

As to the sd reader , mine doesn't work either , I thought it was the media reader, the only thing that seems to read it is my Pocket Pc , really strange.
My reader is from sony.

Disregard this post, there are several different panasonic sd cameras and each use a different codec, sorry...
