I don't have requirements for h.264 video now. Probably be a year or two before I have need to edit such files.

But I suspect that this will be the cheapest time to upgrade from TVS v3 to TVS v4, so I'd rather do so now than later.

So my question is, if I purchase the upgrade to v4 at this time, will the new version behave the same as version 3.1.5.583 I'm currently running?

In a nutshell, yes.

I do both MPEG-2 and H.264 editing. You get more control of re-encoding, if you want to do that. Otherwise if all you are going to do is edit commercials out a program, you will find that the functionality is the same.

I'm in the same boat. Besides editing H.264, you can create H.264 and mp4 from standard mpeg recordings. LIke converting HD TV recordings to smaller files without sacrificing quality.

Yes, V4 is a superset of V3. Even if you don't edit H.264 files now, you can save video in formats suitable for phones and mobile players. Also, if you have multi-core output you might find V4 slightly faster during output.

@ Mr. V & Steve: Thanks fellas. Appreciate the feedback.

@DanR: Thanks, Dan. Have been using your product since I first purchased VRD Plus way back when. <smile> Rock solid software that does exactly what it promised to do with no fuss and no muss. Plus *great* customer support! So I'll be downloading the pre-release and buying my upgrade. Just tell the team not to party too hard after the offical launch. Because we'll be expecting the constant tweaking and improvements that we've come to expect from you guys. <Big Grin>
