After eight days of testing the new H.264 capabilities I'm impressed.
This looks like the kind of video tool I was waiting for since I bought my twin HD sat receiver/recorder Kathrein UFS922 more then one year ago.
Some files I can cut and save without any problems but with some others the program crashes every time I want to do anything with the loaded file in TVS. With these files TVS also has a problem to see all audio streams - it always misses the AC3 5.1 stream. So even doing a QSF does not help as the for me important audio track can't be selected.
I have a second commercial program to test and with this one all the corrupted files can be opened, edited and saved with the correct audio selected. It tells me where errors in the stream are but can somehow handle them without crashing. This program uses the MainConcept codecs as I believe TVS does.
It seems the files become corrupted when I use the simple editing capabilities of the UFS922 to edit the video in order to conserve space on the built-in hard disk. TVS can handle the un-edited material but not the edited files.
I would like to buy TVS because it is much richer in functionality than the other software but would like to make sure that it can handle all the files I have without the need for a second program to fix them first. Are there any settings I could try or would you like to see a sample of the files TVS crashes on?
I am using Windows XP SP3. My main goal is to archive recorded programs after cutting the two minutes before the program starts and the 15 minutes after the program ends (my recording settings) plus any commercials. For some files I would also use the recoding capabilities to author a DVD or make a smaller file for my iPhone. Most recordings I have are either SD or HD in 1280x720p and 1920x1080i. Some have analog audio, most have AC3 in 2.0 or 5.1 format.
Thanks
