View Full Version : Digitv recording is seen as 28hrs long in Videoredo!

I use a Digitv card to record programmes off the air and unfortunately from time to time there are errors from the transmission like audio pops and picture corruption for a fraction of a second. Usually they are minor but sometimes there is a major corruption which causes problems with the programs I use including this time with Videoredo.

I recorded the British grand prix qualifying today and unfortunately at around 1hr 20mins 31 secs (1hr 25mins 41secs in media player???) there is a corruption in the stream. (Thankfully in a comercial)

Now when I load it in Videoredo the program shows it as 28hrs long!!!
It actually is only 2hrs 16mins long. When I try to move to the time of the corruption the program freezes and starts to access the hard drive for a very long time! Meaning I have to shut it down with task manager.

If instead i just resave the file without cuts it only processes the video till 1hr 20mins 31 secs only and ignores the rest of the file.

I used project X to demux the file and it had no trouble processing the whole file but in the log file produced by project x it says

!> PTS difference of 176400 (00:00:01.960) to last GOP#10063 detected
!> dropping useless B-Frames @ GOP#10064 / new Timecode 01:20:31.000

for the video portion and for the audio portion it says:

!> PTS without a frame (115947592/115947593)
-> 22 frame(s) (528ms) inserted @ 01:20:30.480

I have set up project x to insert silent audio at the errors it encounters so as to keep the video and audio in sync.

Now for whatever reason Videoredo seems to get confused at the point of corruption and I was wondering whether there is anything to do to rectify the situation in this instance as your program is very good and saves huge amount of time in editing mpeg 2's that otherwise would require demuxing, remuxing then editing with a range of programs with varying degrees of success.

Thankyou in advance.

VideoReDo makes an attempt to compensate for "messed up" timestamps in the file, but sometimes it can't figure things out. I would suggest you try the new feature in release 1.6 called QuickStream Fix on our tools menu. This will quickly remux the file fixing the timestamps and sync along the way. Then you should be able to edit it without any problem.

Let us know how it works.

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion!

Unfortunately it doesn't quite work, it only does the first 1hr 20mins 8secs
and ignores the rest!

And also I have just noticed that when I demux with project x and remux with TMPGEnc that the file goes out of sync after 1hr 20mins 31secs.
I wonder why the corruption causes such trouble and if it is fixable!?

Any chance you could upload the 1st 5 MB and last 5MB of the file to our FTP site: ftp://videoredo:videoredo@ftp.drdsystems.com/uploads/. Use the Tools>Trim option VideoReDo to make the extractions. Trim doesn't modify the original stream.

I have uploaded the two files you have requested to folder Orzek.
I hope they give some useful information about my problem.

Thankyou in advance.

Beta build #246 has been uploaded to our FTP site: ftp://videoredo:videoredo@ftp.drdsystems.com/Betas/ The QuickStream should now work against your source file, creating a new file with all the timestamps in line.

This example also pointed out an issue since the aspect ratio changes between the start and end of the file. This has also been addressed in this release.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have installed the new beta.
I am afraid that it still doesn't work. It only processes 1hr 19mins 05secs and ignores the rest.

About the aspect ratio, the channel I record from has all its commercials as widescreen while it shows the grand prix in 4:3 ratio. This usually isn't a problem as I remove the commercials.

I've uploaded a new executable for you into your upload folder. Its in the VideoReDo.zip file. Please give it a try at your convienence. It the QuickStream fix still doesn't work. Then turn on debugging with the Tools>Options>Advanced Stream, redo the quickstream and email us the log file to support@videoredo.com

Thanks.

You might also want to try opening the original video without using QuickStream fix in the latest build (in your folder). Made some changes so it might actually work without resorting to QuickStream Fix.

Let me know. Thanks.

Good news! The quickstream now works and processes the whole file with no sync issues. But there is a slight downside, the quickstream cuts about 1min and 30 secs of video before the point of corruption. Nevertheless this is a great improvement and allows me to edit the new file. Thankyou.

About using the program proper to edit as you suggested still doesn't work. Videoredo freezes and starts accessing the hard drive. About an hour later I have to shut it down via task manager. Though with build 244 I was able to read the file till a sec before the corruption at 1hr 20mins 30 secs before freezing, with build 246 the freezing occured about 1hr 17mins and with 247 the freezing occured about 1hr 14mins. Hope that helps. I will also send a copy of the log file to the email you suggested.
