View Full Version : Watching video using vrd

Many times i watch the video in vrd before deciding to keep it or not.
1, Is there a way to watch with a bigger video screen. As with some media player have a switch in the bottom corner for switching to full screen and mouse movement to bring the full screen button back into view to switch back again. Of course mouse invisibility while in full screen.
2, When watching video in vrd after some minutes the sound will start to tick and then evolve into a stutter. Only vrd has this effect no other software. Have selected different Audio settings in the options>playback devices but still continues.

1. VideoReDo does not have a full-screen view mode.
2. Is this on all files or just one file?
Is it reproducible?
Have you tried enabling YUV acceleration as well?
What are your system specs? OS, CPU, RAM
Do you have other tasks/applications running simultaneously that could be using a lot of the CPU?

PHD - this happens to me often as well, usually with HD material ... it's pretty much as if VRD simply can't keep up with the higher datarates HD uses.
Loading the same video into womble's mpeg-vcr, or playing on my MyHD card it plays just fine.
It's not a throughput issue - this happens with local hard drive based material.
There's a definite, noticeable difference between QAM captured SD material (704x480i, ~3mb/s) and QAM captured HD material (1920x1080i, ~15mb/s).
I see this both on a P4 2.6 machine, and a high-end 3.0 Prescott machine.

Pat do you know if vrd is planning to introduce have, a full screen option?
2. Is this on all files or just one file?
All files i watch in vrd after say 10 mins start to chirp as a prelude to really bad audio.
Is it reproducible?
Yes everytime even after using quickstreamfix
Have you tried enabling YUV acceleration as well?
Yes enabled
What are your system specs? OS, CPU, RAM
OS's - XP-SP1
Do you have other tasks/applications running simultaneously that could be using a lot of the CPU?
No extra tasks in startup or system device manager or in the tray.
Have double the registry value of the audio stream for vrd advanced audio, this did nothing to improve the problem.

All files i watch in vrd after say 10 mins start to chirp as a prelude to really bad audio.
Two questions:
1) Is this AC3, MPEG, or both?
2) If you pause and/or seek does the chirpping reset?
3) If its AC3, can you try recoding the output file to MPEG and see if the problem persists.
We will get on this one right away.

Many times i watch the video in vrd before deciding to keep it or not...Ignoring for the moment that DanR thinks there may be a problem somewhere, I have a 3.2GHz P4 and don't get perfect playback out of VRD's edit window. I've never thought much of it as I have a cheapo videocard.
I have, however, found a playback solution that I like--it plays so well that I can use it pre-VRD to check for possible audio sync problems (a problem I've seen on occasion with HDTV programs). I use the MPEG-2 decoder in the "Elecard Streaming Pack" and use this with Media Player Classic. Works just great.

1) .MPG only (in both - transport and programme streams - not mixed)
2) Yes if i pause, it makes it better for a very short while. I have found that by pressing, pause then pressing frame back button for a few frames. Then press play. All is ok again until it starts to happen again, this lasts longer than pressing pause then playback.
3) N/A

3) N/ARobbi, Please post your stream parameters here (Tools>Show Program Info). We've elevated this a high priority and Pat will be working on it starting tomorrow.
Just to confirm:
Its happening with both WAV and DirectSound output?
Have you also tried switching between YUV on and off for the video?
No difference between PS or TS input?

Robbi,
Could you list your CPU and RAM as previously requested?

...and probably video card and sound card, too. ;)

cpu 1200 intel
memory 500
Sound normaly used.
>Use default direct sound drivers
>> SB Live! Wave Device - Gives problem stated above
With YUV off with all but above sound profile all is ok for first test run. With above sound profile still has problem.
Use any other sound config seems ok for one time play test only.
I will have to update this as and when it appears again, without using problem sound setting above.
I wiil put some images on the ftp as i cannot work how to attach images on this site.

Is it a Celeron or a full Pentium?
Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

I have not been able to reproduce your problem of ticking sound. It might be related to the SoundBlaster. You should check for updated drivers.
Could you trim and copy a 20-30MB segment of an original file and upload it to us? Tools>Trim and Copy Source File
Please confirm that the trim and copy segment has the same problem before uploading.
ftp://upload:upload@videoredo.net/
Please create a folder with a unique name and place the file in it.
Please send an email to Support@VideoReDo.com and let us know when it has been successfully uploaded.

Even for SD material your computer is seriously under powered! Yea it may meet some minimum requirements but its like using a shovel to dig the Grand Canyon.

Pat i will check for updated drivers, and hope it cures the problem. I hope they have some good newer ones. Microsoft updates i would have thought may of fixed it. But i forget if the drivers are WHQL or not.

Bits there is no problem whatsoever everything works as it should. There is plenty of system resources still to use meaning cpu and memory and others. I also can easily edit while recording without a problem. Thats the reason why Full a Intel cpu is more preferable to any other, they have plenty of horsepower. Not to forget, not all systems are built the same.
However i would agree if i was working with HD material it would be near impossible to do anything but stream record HD material.
