I am using version 450 specifically for the dvr-ms support. I use the program to convert HDTV .mpg shows to dvr-ms so I can stream them to my XBOX 360 and be able to maintain FF and RW.

I attempted to batch encode 2 videos and had problems with both of them. I moved them to the "recorded TV" folder and was unable to open them within MCE. I would get the " codec error" if I attempted to force MCE to open them.

I was then able to open them inside of VRD but only if I selected the "all files" option, as they wouldn't show up with the default .tp, .ts, .mpg, etc. I had to reencode them individually to make them useable. Is this a known problem?

Here are the properties of one of the unplayable files:

File Name: C:\Documents and Settings\Nathan\My Documents\Las Vegas (New).dvr
File Size: 5319589892 ( 4.95 GB )
Program Duration: 00:42:28.26
File Type: PS - MPEG2
Encoding: MPEG 2
Video stream Id: xE0
Encoding Dimensions: 1920 x 1080
Display Size: 1920 x 1080
Aspect Ratio: 16/9
Frame Rate: 29.97 FPS
Bit Rate: 25.000 Mbps
VBV_Buffer: 976 KB
Profile: Main/High
Progressive: Prog or Int
Chroma: 4:2:0
Audio Format: 5.1
Audio Stream Id: AC3: 0 (x80)
Audio Bit Rate: 384 Kbps
Audio Sampling Rate: 48000 Hz

Also, when opening any of the files inside of MCE, the program duration is incorrect. It always says that the show was recorded "now" and that it is significantly longer than it really is. Can this be fixed?

On a side note......To get the best quality picture, which option should I choose when I capture the video with my HDTV tuner card:

1. Capture Native MPEG (.mpg)

2. Capture Transport Stream (.tp)

You can add DVR-MS as a default to file open screen using Tools>Options>File Types.

There was a problem with batch creating DVR-MS output that was fixed in the 455 beta. Forgot to mention it in the release notes.

Any idea how to fix the program duration? Most of mine come up as being recorded "now" and they are 2+ hours long.

Also, can anyone answer my quesion about recording the .mpg vs. .tp

Thanks!

Thanks! Are you saving as MPEG or DVR-MS? If MPEG, then I think you are at the mercy of the particular directshow filters on your MCE box. If DVR-MS, then the duration should be correct.

.tp or .mpg shouldn't make any difference regarding the quality. These are simply containers for the same raw video streams. The big thing to look for is whether your card stores multiple video streams in the .tp capture. If it does, then you're probably better off with mpg.

Do you record with MCE? If so, then it will record in DVR-MS, which is a different container from either mpg or .tp.

I am saving as DVR-MS inside of VRD. It may be because I had problems with the batch encoding and had to redo the encoding process. I will try it tonight without doing a batch encode.

The shows in question were recorded using the DvICO Fusion HDTV application, as MCE doesn't support HD via QAM.

The DvICO software only has options of .mpg and .tp. I'll have to look into how the software captures.

With the Fusion, I suggest saving to .tp. I don't remember why, but when I had the Fusion installed there were some issues with the .mpg file. Pat has the Fusion card now, so if we need more testing that's not a problem.
