Hello,
I have been trying out the 15 day trial of your product. A couple of comments:
- I work with DV video alot. I noticed that LPCM is not recognized as a valid audio stream mux'ed within a mpeg2 program stream. Is this correct? Note that graphedit opens and displays the correct filters for both audio and video (on my machine).
- I noticed that a mpeg2 video only elementary stream will not open with your tool. States it is an invalid program stream. Technically you're right but what would keep someone from editing the video mpeg2 stream, less audio?
- Have there been any reports of shuddering (sp?) audio in the output when the input is 5.1 AC3 @ 384 kbs? The source plays fine in the preview window but the output trimmed program file shudders during playback. I noticed if I drop down to 2 channel AC3 @ 224 kbs, the shuddering is almost eliminated.
Keep up your great work on this program. I can see it being a mainstream editing tool for my video production(s).
I'm still torturing your program, probably will have other comments soon!
thanks,
Brian
I have been trying out the 15 day trial of your productThe trial should be 21 days. Please double check, if you only got 15 days then maybe something is wrong with the license key and I want to know about it.
I noticed that LPCM is not recognized as a valid audio stream mux'ed within a mpeg2 Funny you should mention that. I just got my hands on some LPCM files today. It will be supported in the next maintenance release (1-2 weeks). If you want something sooner, please me know and you can try an early release.
shuddering (sp?) audio in the output when the input is 5.1 AC3 @ 384 kbsThere were a couple of problems with AC3, especially if the source video used 3:2 pulldown. This has been fixed and there is a pre-release available for testing. If you're interested in trying it out, please email and I'll send you more info (support@videoredo.com.).
mpeg2 video only elementary stream will not open with your toolWe do not currently support video elementary streams. Frankly I didn't think there would be much demand. I thought, what good is it editing video without audio? However, if you can wrap the video inside a PS then it will edit just fine. But, please educate me. :) When would you edit elementary streams? It would not be difficult to add.

oops, typo meant to say 21 days I think it said 15 days before I entered the temp key.
editing elementary streams:
You're right about wrapping it in a PS. I did that to experiment with your tool. An example to consider: One of my customers is having me video tape a karate (TKD) exercise. The audio is not important because I will add commentary as a 'director's comments' as an audio stream. (The black belt discussing the moves while in slow motion.) Thus I take out all DV recorded audio and purposely slow down the frame rate to allow the instructor time to discuss what is going on. I then mux the new audio during my DVD authoring session which is (of course) downstream from slicing up my DV video. I tend to generate and author in elementary streams for much of my work. I hope this helps!
I can certainly wait for the other changes mentioned in your response. For a program just out of the gates, you sure have a winner on your hands! :D
And thank you for a quick response!

It would make VideoReDo much easier for me to work with, if it had the ability to work with elementary streams. Typically, I might want to keep a music soundtrack unchanged, but replace part of the video.
I might want to keep a music soundtrack unchanged, but replace part of the videoHow do you handle resyncing? Would you want VideoReDo to have a remux capability?
I've had a few requests for this, and will look into providing the support for it in the future. Will you want to just edit the video or will you want to supply 2 elmen streams, audio and video and edit them as if they were a program stream? Then would you output them as 2 elem streams or a program stream?
Sorry for all the questions, but this is area why I could use some guidance so that we do it right the first time.

Dan,
I would like to see you handle 2 elem streams and treat them as a program stream. Remuxing would occur only at the output stage for the segments that I'm interested in.

Would like to hear from others as well. The more people that request it, the high it goes on the list. :)
