View Full Version : Why don't preview thumbnails update while playing?
I don't understand why this is being done. It makes editing a complete PITA. Can this be corrected? It is taking way too long to edit with this product because I'm always waiting 10 seconds for the thumbnails to update and they only update after I stop the feed. Heck, it would be easier if you eliminated the main frame if you could just get the thumbnails to update as the file plays.

10 seconds? You must have a slow PC. My thumbnails update in less than a second.

I'm sure from memory, preview minimum is two seconds.
Right click the thumbnails, set for two seconds or less to enable preview.

A thumbnail interval of two seconds or less is necessary for audio display. rfan, do as Robbi says and right click on a thumbnail to see what your thumbnail interval is. Even set to 60 seconds, my thumnails update in about 4 seconds; set at single frame, 1 second or less.

It doesn't matter what I set it too. They still don't update while playing. :(

i've set thumbnail interval to 10 minutes and it only takes 2 seconds to update them all, btw i'm displaying 13. single frame thumbnail are pretty fast like 300 - 500 ms or so. thumbnails update only when you pause the movie. when they would update while the movie is playing the whole thumbnailbar would have to scroll from right to left. if you got such a slow pc i don't think that your pc would be capable of doing this in due time.
As the others have asked, what are your machine specs? OS, CPU, RAM, video card?
What is the source/capture device of your files?
Thumbnails only update after the video is paused.

The Main Window is what you watch, then you pause the program and use the Nav tools to go back-and-forth. Once you're close to your desired cut point, the Thumbnails and related audio display aid in the precise selection of the cut points.
The way I have Thumbnails set is "single frame" and then I use the Shift key and left/right arrows to jump by I-frames.

Lets say you set it to 2 minutes apart. With ten thumbnails displayed this would require reading 20 minutes of video which would take quite a while.
Updating the thumbnails, especially if the interval is less than second or two should be very quick.

Are you editing HD? High bit rate streams can slow things down a bit.
