View Full Version : Error saving DVR-MS on network drive

Hi,
I tried today build 470 and I have an error when I try to save a drv-ms to a network drive.

my setup is my main computer and a mce2005 computer in the living room.
I have full access over the network to the mce computer.

Here what I did (I can reproduce the error):
- I open a dvr-ms (from local drive or my networked mce computer, same result) from my main computer
- I edit in build 470
- I save to a network drive on my mce computer where all my drv-ms are
and I get "Mpeg stream error: Open error for DVR-MS output" popup

if I save in mpeg format on the network drive, or keep the dvr-ms format and save to a local drive, it works.

I have the same error if I try to save to a mapped drive "V:\" or browse the network to find the share on the mce computer

I am not sure if worked in the past as I usually save locally to recompress after editing.
This time I just wanted to take 5 minutes cut ads before watching. This is why I try to save back on the mce computer.

Thanks

Daniel

I've noticed the same problem. My guess is that the DVR-MS writer won't work over a network drive. You'll have to save the file locally and then copy it later.

Is the MS-DVR writer going to be updated to support non-local drives?

We use MSoft's dvr-ms driver to create the files so if its not working on non-local drives then I don't think its something we can fix. You should probably ask MSoft :)

Have you tried 2.5.6.512? There was a change in the way we handle meta data which might impact local vs. non-local drives.

--edit: forget that, saved in mpeg without realising it. retried in dvr-ms and still does not work. sorry.

Just tried with version 2.5.6.512 and it works.

I opened a dvr-ms from a networked drive
edited it
saved it in dvr-ms to another network drive.
It play correctly without any problems in mce2005
(no skip issues, length show correctly)

I guess that in the past year, something was updated that fixed this problem.

nice to know that it works now :)

Thanks

Daniel

nice to know that it works now :)I have to belive it was the latest fix we put into 2.5.6.512. Otherwise, not much has changed in DVR-MS output in the past year.

Dan,
I edited my previous post as I did my test a little too fast and saved in mpeg without realising it.
old habit I guess.

I retried in dvr-ms and the problem is still there.

Sorry for the false hope.

A work around for this problem (if I recall correctly) is to map a network drive to the network directory you wish to save your dvr-ms files to.
