View Full Version : Test Version - Bold for Active Files

The attached VAP072T1 exe (sub for exe in VAP Ver. 071) uses bold font to highlight "active files" on the monitored file list (same files that show up when the active filter is checked). I experimented with using a different text color but found nothing as distinctive as the bolding. (Red seemed the best.)

I had to introduce a small artifact to get this to work: When dragging the vertical scroll bar with the mouse, trash appeared in the text. No other way of scrolling the list caused this, but I couldn't find any way to stop it. I had to force refresh operations on the list after scrolling. On my machine the artifact is a barely noticeable blink of the list after a scroll operation. It might be worse on other machines.

Give it a try and let me know what you think of it.

Cool. I don't see the scrolling artifact so maybe it's something particular to your video driver. My system has the Intel HD 2000 integrated graphics.

Not cool. VAP is not running VAPpostprocess.cmd. The last message in the log is that it created the DRAX chapter file.

Here's an interesting side effect, it momentarily prevents viewing the Most Visited bookmarks in the Bookmark Toolbar of Firefox.

1) Firefox window open
2) Click on VAP icon in Notification area
3) Click on VAP icon in Notification area to minimize VAP
4) Click on Most Visited bookmark without first activating the FireFox window.

The Most Visited items won't display until I minimize/restore Firefox, then they view.

I don't recall this behavior before the test version so I can't say with certainty that the test version of VAP is causing it but it's something new I noticed.

Win XP Home SP3
Firefox 4.0

Sorry about that. Fixed in attached exe.

I wouldn't know where to begin on that one -- hope it's something you can live with! ;) The entire notification icon/system tray business is black magic to me. I had to experiment to find code that would prevent multiple copies of the VAP icon from accumulating in the tray on XP. (Please tell me that is working.) But on my Win7 machine the multiple icons are back. The "dead" ones disappear when you mouse-over them.

EDIT: Got to experimenting with the notify icon. Try the attached exe. You will find when VAP maximizes by clicking the icon, the icon will disappear now. Minimizing is still to the tray icon but can now only be done with the minimize icon on the form. But this seems to stop the build up of multiple tray icons. Whether this will help your problem is another question but who knows?

I never had a problem with multiple VAP icons in the tray.

With 072T3, the Notification tray icon disappears when VAP minimizes after startup (with -hotstart option) so I can't maximize it. I had to kill VAP and same result after trying again. Went back to T1.

I can see where you changed the text in the balloon, at startup, T1 said Click to minimize/maximize where T3 just says Click to maximize.

I can live with the behavior of T1.

Happy Easter, talk to you on Monday.

ADDED: Oh, just to throw you a bone, I went back to 071 and it didn't cause a problem with the Most Visited bookmark, went back up to 072T1, problem returns so there's something to the code you added in 072T1. But again, I can live with it if it's too much trouble to figure out. I'm game if you want to try though.

That should be fixed in the attached exe if you wouldn't mind testing it.

I did a detailed comparison of the source files for these two versions and can't find anything that would explain this. But of course I don't have any idea what would affect the Most Visited Bookmarks in general. See if the problem is still there with the attached exe.

msmart,

One thought on the "Most Frequently Visited" issue: This is a list of web sites, correct? The only connection VAP makes to any web site is for theTVDB.com searches. You could try turning that feature off (Advanced Configuration -- "Other" tab) and see if that stops the problem. However, if that is it, there won't be anything to do about it (except give up theTVDB.com searches).

After further testing, I conclude this is not a VAP issue.

The new T4 test version fixes the disappearing icon issue but the Most Visited Firefox issue persists. However, since I realize that Outlook Express also has a Notification Tray icon, I clicked on it and chose Open Outlook. After OE opens, I moved it so I could see the Most Visited bookmark list in Firefox, it, as you now can guess, wouldn't work.

While I said I had not seen this behavior before, I'm sorry I didn't do proper testing before surmising this was a VAP issue.

Now back to the VAP Notification Tray icon, when clicking on it the first time after VAP is launched, it does not hide after restoring VAP, the icon stays visible and you can minimize VAP by clicking on it and repeat the process indefinitely. Only after minimizing VAP with the minimize icon in the window does the icon hide after clicking on it to maximize VAP. I'm probably making more out of this then necessary but it's just what I noticed.

Now that I understand how it works, let's move on.

Thanks for the feedback/testing. I've removed all the attachments from this thread. Please download new release version 0.72.

I kept the system tray icon behavior what it has long been, i.e., the icon is always there and you can click to either minimize or maximize VAP.

Sounds good. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
