I have converted an mpeg to a REC file, but when I try and play on my Topfield 5800, all I get is a blank dark screen, and then playback stops.Anybody have any ideas? I am using the latest version VRD.

What type of topfield do you have?

What country are you in?

Did you set the .rec type for Topfield 5800?

I have converted an mpeg to a REC file

Was this originally a Topfield recording? Or was it an mpeg sourced from elsewhere? That is, did you d/l the mpeg? Transcode a movie clip to mpeg? etc.?

If it isn't an original topfield recording, try using SUPER ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=SUPER_1 )to convert it to mpegII first. Remember to set Scaling to 720x576, aspect ratio to either 4x3, or 16x9, Sampling Frequency to 48000, and channels to 2. Bitrate at around 160.

Then convert to .rec with VRD. Works every time for me.
