Hi Dan and the team.
I'm very new to VRD but I'm so impressed I paid the money and it's worth every penny in the time it is now saving me. NOBEL Prize to all at VRD 8) .
Now on to what I desire...
1 VRD will let you save elementary streams, but it doesn't let you load an MPV back so you can edit/join it to another MPG. Now why would I want to do that - can't stand the program announcers that insist on talking over the closing titles, but I like to keep the titles so I can see who directed etc.
It would be nice, of course if VRD could fade the sound to zero over a selected region, that would save cutting the last 30 secs saving as elementary streams, opening VS8, importing the MPV and creating a new MPG before reimporting back into VRD to join, (takes breath).
Bye the way if you open a MPG, put it on the join list, close it, then open another MPG, put that on the join list and close it, when you hit join VRD crashes (for me) and Windows error report pops up. This does not happen if you don't close either of the MPG's before pressing join
2 I'd like to add my support to the 16:9 pan and scan option I saw mentioned in other posts, if this is possible without re-rendering.
3 One thing I and probably others would find very useful, how many out there have really got to grips with this aspect ratio lark - is it possible to generate a preview window on a pc that would show you exactly what your MPG would look like on a 4:3 TV or a 16:9 TV.
Some of the above probably sounds a tall order, but I have every confidence in you to produce a package that really does what we need.
Bye the way, I initially trialed VRD to re-sync my audio, but now I use it more than my authoring software :)
Cheers
P.S. Dan, where are you ? USA or Europe.
Be nice to see a bit about you and your team on the website.

Hi Backoffice, A nobel prize for VideoReDo that's high praise indeed, thanks :)

We had hoped to have direct editing of elementary streams by now, but alas it fell by the wayside, too many other demands. Its definately on the list, but not until Q1 of 2005. We also plan to have some type of audio fading as well. In the meantime, you'll have to make do. We've recently come across an open source program called MPLEX which will multiplex MPV/MPA back together. Its free and seems to work very well. If you have touble finding a copy let me know.

I think we beat the 16:9 to 4:3 pan and scan to detach early in this past summer. You'll find a couple of threads about it here. If I remember correctly, it was a combination DVD authoring / playback device issue. There wasn't much we could do in VideoReDo. We did try setting all the appropiate bits to try and remove the black bars, but I don't think it made much of a difference. I think the pan and scan option in DVDLab worked the best. Perhaps someone else can chime in and refresh this topic for us.

Thanks for the bug report, didn't know about that. It turns out if you close the MPG file before join create it does crash. It will be fixed.

We are in the USA, Northern New Jersey actually although we have people helping us all over the world. Your idea about posting info about the team if a good one and I'll pass it on to our marketing people.

Indeed, DVDLab will add the pan and scan info to the .ifo if the pan and scan option is selected in 'compilation properties'.

Alternatively, you can author in DVD Author, then before burning tweak the .ifo with Ifoedit as described here http://tonyspage.abock.de/. About 5 or 6 paragraphs down.

I must point out that it is player dependent as to whether it works or not.

Adam.

Thanks Dan & Adam,
Wow I'm not used to such rapid support. :D
I'll try out your suggestions and try and find some more problems for you to solve. New Jersey - any chance you can stop some of that rain coming across the Atlantic ?
Cheers

backoffice, the joiner crash has been fixed. A simple problem, but for now leave make sure you leave a file open (any file will do) in VideoReDo before calling Joiner->Create.

Another free (but not open source) muxer is ImagoMPG-Muxer. It can mux to MPG or VOB, and supports multiple audio streams.
