I have a Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-EH55 with a 200Gb hard drive. I record to the hard drive then pick the shows I want to keep then record to DVD+r recordable DVD. My first project with VideoReDo has been troublesome. The program will not see the tv show either from the DVD player in my computer or from the copied files on the computer hard drive. The show is a two part episode of Dr. Who From the SciFi channel. I want to remove the commercials then join the two episodes to make a feature length movie. Is their protection code that prevents this operation? I did try the rip strip program, but no luck yet. Seems to be a learning curve.

If you could get a DVD-RAM drive for your computer and use that format it's a lot easier with Panasonics. I have had no problems this way with my DMR-EH60D, VRD accepts the .VRO files no problem.

Also check out this thread. I created the program to assist in this.
http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=3458

Use the "Open DVD" button first to locate your files, then press the "Copy + QSF" button to copy the files to your hard drive and process the files thorugh QuickStream Fix.

This will take a while to perform this task.

After it finishes, press the "Play MPG button" to start the fixed file in VideoReDo and edit.

Well I did all that and still get layer 1 audio error. FOUND I could edit in the player by making chapters. then delete the commercial chapters. maybe video redo will give my money back ha ha. Program needs to be smarter for us dummies.

I'm sure it's just something trivial.
Using VRD for the editing really makes life wonderful. :)

In addition to what PHD described above, here is the old way from the VRD FAQ:

How can I edit files from my standalone DVD recorder (http://www.videoredo.com/FAQs/SupportFAQDVDEdiitingAuthoring.htm#DVDAuthoringPro grams)?

What is the best way to join multiple DVD VOB files (http://www.videoredo.com/FAQs/SupportFAQDVDEdiitingAuthoring.htm#JoinMultipleVOB s)?

Say, this is kinda obvious, but did you "finalize" the DVD before bringing it to your computer?

The only other thing I can think of is whether your recorder changed burning speeds during the transfer to DVD.
That's not likely a problem in this particular situation, but one to avoid in the future.

What recording setting are you using?

I have heard of the Panasonics recording MPEG audio Layer 1.

MPEG Layer 1 audio is not supported by VideoReDo.

Yes that is the error message layer 1 not supported. How does a person convert audio to something this program can use. Seems like it should be supported.

What recording setting do you use?

I have a couple of the Panasonic DVRs and have not had troubles editing any of the files

You could try a different recording parameter also?

Could you trim and copy a 20-30MB segment of the original file and upload it to us? Tools>Trim and Copy Source File

Confirm that the trim and copy segment has the same problem before uploading.
ftp://upload:upload@videoredo.net/

Create a folder with a unique name and place the file in it.

Send an email to Support@VideoReDo.com and let us know when it has been successfully uploaded.

...read the manual (http://panasonic.com.au/content/library/files/F001740.pdf)...

I just used Google to look up: manual Panasonic DMR-EH55
Seems I found it on a site in Australia. Wonder if that's significant?

edit: there is a recording mode/time table on page 24.
What speed did you record the material, and onto what media??
Try using SP (standard recording mode) onto +R or -R single layer 4.7gb write-once DVDs.

Also, there was something earlier in the manual about setting the unit for high speed transfer, when selecting to record to hard disc.
I never did understand what affect that feature had on the overall operation.

Maybe someone more familiar with the brand will see something of interest.
LPCM is supported for recording at some speeds......
and at least the playing of VCD/SVCD is supported. Will the unit record them?

I have all of my units set up for high speed transfer so that's not an issue.

The 2 main recording settings I use are LP and EP.
