Aspect Ratio

I use a Nebula DigiTV card in the UK from
www.nebula-electronics.com

I have just captured a short video and edited it with VideoRedo.

With the original capture the clip plays at 1024x756 in Windows Media Player (16:9)

After conversion the clip plays at 720x576 in WMP.
This results in the picture being stretched vertically.

Both clips play correctly in PowerDVD.

Have you any idea how to keep the correct aspect ratio?

I could upload both files if you like.

By the way it is an excellent programme for UK users who have the Nebula DigiTV card.

Upload both clips. You might also want to check what Tool>Show Program Info says. The only place where the aspect ratio could get altered is when doing a frame accurate (FA) cut. There are 2 quick experiments to try if you're interested:

1) Do you edits in GOP mode (Frame accurate off).

2) Create 2 clips in FA mode, one where you trim from the beginning of the file, the 2nd where you leave the beginning of the file, but start your cut one second later. My guess is that the 2nd will preserve the aspect ratio.

I've uploaded both clips to your upload directory.

BBC Original.mpg is the captured mpeg data stream.

BBC Edited.mpg is after editing with VideoRedo.

Show Program Info shows the same information for both clips. (720x756)

In WMP the original clip plays back at a reported 1024x756 and displays correctly on my widescreen monitor.

In WMP the edited clip plays back at a reported 720x756 and displays incorrectly on my widescreen monitor.

Using PowerDVD the original mpeg data stream displays correctly but the lip-sync is out (That's why I neeed VideoRedo) whereas the edited clip is perfect.

You might want to download the DigiTV application to try it out.
It does not need the card to be installed & it has an inbuilt player for the captured mpeg datastream.

No settings needed.

Never mind, I missed your upload post. Will look at the files on Wednesday.

I doesn't like the VideoReDo files, lots of pixelation, but that probably because its looking for the the odd packet sizes. But, it displays all the files at the correct 16:9 resolution.

I'm having problems duplicating this particular problem.
