I converted a ts to dvr.ms file. the file plays back fine wrt the video on windows media center (on vista). however the closed captions are all fouled up. it looks like gibberish. sometimes you can make our what the words should have been but for the most part it looks like the letter ins the words are all mixed up (or possibly some letters are dropped?). Is this an issue with the conversion? This file came from a Motorola 6412 DVR. It is a high def recording of a football game. When I watch the video on the DVR the closed captions seem fine. I have not yet tried another tool to see if the closed captions are even ok in the stream itself. Open to suggestions for what tool to use for that.

Anyone else experience this issue?

Are you using CapDVHS from the 6412?

Which firewire port are you using? (According to some info I've read, there can be a difference.)

Do you have any DVD players installed on your machine that support closed captions?

I am using CapDVHS for the Motorola 6412. I think it's the right Firewire port (I use the left one when looking at it from the front) from what I've read. The video comes through perfectly, it's the closed captions I'm not sure about. I am having trouble finding a DVD player which will show the closed captions. Apparently on HD or digital TV broadcasts they use the EIA-708 standard for closed captions. I've tried PowerDVD, no luck. I tried Vista Media Center which showed the captions but garbled (maybe it doesn't support EIA-708?).

Anyone know of any DVD player software out there that supports EIA-708 closed captions?

I just tried another file. This time a very short clip. I made sure to check it on the DVR first to see if the closed captions were ok and they were. However under Windows Media Center on Vista the closed captions appear not only garbled but only stay on the screen for a very short duration. I don't know if this is Vista or if it's in the conversion from .ts to dvr.ms.

It's a bug in VideoReDo Plus. I converted a .ts file to DVR-MS using VideoReDo Plus and I get the same corruption of closed-captions in MCE 2005.

The problem you are seeing is not just with ts to dvrms files. I reported the same problem with dvrms to dvrms edits (removing commericials) in Vista and XP back in November and they were looking into it.
Hopefully the next release will correct the problem.
There is also a problem I noticed back then with the Vista DVRMS thumbnail not being retained from the header information but again, it was to 'be worked on'. :)

We will need a clip of the source .ts file. Can someone please upload a clip to our FTP site and an email to support at vidoeredo.com with the name and location of the file?

Regarding the Vista thumbnail, we know about that and one of our developers will start working on that shortly.
