View Full Version : Unable to save as Topfield format

I am unable to save as Topfield .rec format, even where I have opened/edited an original Topfield file.
I can save the same file in all other formats.
I have tried:
- large and short files,
- installing the 2-5-3-500 update, as prompted by the software,
- installing the 2-5-4-509 beta,
- saving as another format, then reopening that file and save as Topfield
again.
- opening the original rec file and saving as Topfiled under a new name, no edits.
- Rebooted machine.
All save options are set to "No Change".
When trying to save as Topfield a progress box showing "Sampling Program For Video Bit Rates" counts down very quickly. When it hits zero a generic runtime error window appears (attached) and VideoRedo closes.
Before updating the software I had a different error message, along the lines of insufficient memory (or something like that - sorry, doesn't come up now!)
I have succesfully saved in Topfield format several months ago.
FWIIW, Topfield is 5000, in Australia. Machine has plenty of memory, running Win XP SP2, fully updated.
I have not uploaded any files to you as I do see the relevance if the files save in other formats ok, and the original rec file can be edited ok.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some additional info.....
I tried the same exercise on my work computer, which is still running version 2.5.2.491, so it shows the original error message. Note that the program does not crash after this, and a zero size .rec file is created.
This failure occurs at the Fast Frame Copy process (after the "Sampling Program For Video Bit Rates" countdown), and reports the error "Mpeg stream error: Transport Muxer Error, packet data buffer is full".
I have attached copies of each of the above windows.
FYI the source file was a Topfield .rec which was edited then saved as an MPEG. When trying to resave as a .rec I am setting the aspect to "16:9" and "MPEG" audio. All other settings are "No Change".
Hope this helps!

More info.....
I found another mpeg which was originally a Topfield file, and this file DOES save as a Topfield file.
The main difference I can see is that the one which worked is a true, full 16:9 image, whereas the failing files were 4:3 programs in the 16:9 format, however there are "timing marks" in the lower left corner of these files which lie in the 16:9 area. This is very common for recordings from this station only.
I will attempt to upload a portion of a "faulty" file with these timing marks.
This failure occurs at the Fast Frame Copy process (after the "Sampling Program For Video Bit Rates" countdown), and reports the error "Mpeg stream error: Transport Muxer Error, packet data buffer is full".
This error is usually caused by the multiplex rate either being too low or too high. You might want to:
1) Change the number of sample points on the Tools>Options>Transport Stream Output.
This will probably result in a higher automatic mux rate.
2) Use a manual mux rate (on the same page). If you're using an automatic mux rate then look at the log file to see what the mux rate is using and increase it a little.

Thanks for the reply, Pat.
Results:
1) Tried increasing to 20 and decreasing to 3, same result each time.
2) Tried increasing to 15 and decreasing to 8, same result.
Where do I find the log file?
I am unable to ftp from work. Can I email a 6mb file for you to test? If so, what address?
You can email us at: Support@VideoReDo.com

I have now tried to edit/save full size 16:9 recordings without success. I'm just going around in circles, and wasting a lot of time.
Can you please look at the short clip I emailed you and see if you can save in Topfield format.
Thanks.
When did you send it? I don't believe we have received it.

HI,
My issues are very similar to Chris's. I'm running a similar set-up to him too. XP. SP2 etc etc
I have just purchased VideoReDo v2.5.4.507.
I’m editing a rec file that was recorded on a Topfield 5000. I’m trying to save the edits as a rec file. Seconds after clicking on save, the attached message comes up. When I click on “Retry”, the whole program immediately shuts down!
Can you help please?
Thank you,
Ian.
BTW There's no problems saving this same file to MPG or TS . . . ??

I'm not sure if there have been any specific changes that may address the problem you are experiencing, but you may want to try the latest beta, build 510 (http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=3342), just in case it makes a difference.
Also, given that .rec->.mpg is working for you, have you tried going from the resulting .mpg -> .rec to see if that works? (Yes, it's an extra step, but it may help to further isolate the source of the problem).

Umm, okay, I'm having problems here going from .mpg to .rec with beta build 510, so you may need to wait for one of the VRD team to look into it or contact VRD support via email.
