View Full Version : Save as mpeg?

I just bought the program the other day and on my first attempt to edit a DVD, I enecountered some problems when trying to burn with Nero.

Let me ask something very basic...

It's my intention to create another DVD from one that I've ripped and edited...
often times from my standalone DVD recorder or from a commercial DVD.

After I rip a DVD and have my VOB files, should I be saving to mpeg rather than VOB?

I don't care about menus at all...just the video on the VOB's.

If I save VOB1, VOB2, etc as mpeg files, will Nero have a better time burning those?

I know there are the IFO's but can't remember their function.

Don't tell me I'm going to have to reauthor?

Thanks.

You are going to have to reauthor the DVD. AUthoring will create the menus and proper structure for the DVD. New IFO, BUP files, etc.

The program should not have to reencode your video since your files came from a DVD and are therefore DVD compliant.

What Nero product are you using?

I have the Ultra 6 but the burning program is about all I use with it.

Reauthoring a DVD is way too confusing and time consuming for me. Every time I tried it with Nero, it would display "hours" left to complete.

So bottom line is...

If you re-edit a DVD with videoredo and want to use those files to make another DVD, you need to reauthor everything, right?

I was hoping there would be an easy way out by manipulating "something"...IFO file? whatever?

Guess not.

Well, I author with a big package, but for what you are asking there are simple solutions.
Search this forum for threads discussing MuxMan.
It's pretty basic (but I wouldn't call it crude) and it's free.
You feed it audio and video out of VideoReDo, and it makes DVDs.
(well, it makes the files you burn with Nero Burning Rom)
As for time, think "minutes", not "hours" :)
It might be enough to accomplish your task.

There are other freebies like DVDstyler, but they are probably more trouble than you need right now.
Next up the foodchain, the VideoReDo folks will be adding real authoring to their product line later this year.
Not sure when (I suspect several months away 'till beta testing), but you can bet that'll be friendly!
Eventually, you might want to move up to some of the big packages, but it all depends on your needs.

Thanks...I'll look forward to the videoredo update.

I never have been happy with Nero....overkill and a very confusing interface.

I'll look into it but wonder why something like the Muxman you mention is minutes rather than hours? Just curious about "how" it does what it does.

Also, I was wondering about (if it's makes sense anyway) about the possiblity of recording "on the fly" from the computer into a standalone DVD recorder?

Thanks for the info...I'll look into this Muxman tommorow morning. Fact is, I'd like to uninstall Nero from my video computer.

If I can find another burn program and this Muxman works out...that maybe all I need.

ImgBurn (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ImgBurn)!!! There is none better, for burning DVDs!

Get rid of Nero at once, sir!

I like NERO, for burning DVDs and CDs only.
I've never used any of its other features, even though I've got it.
See my thoughts on just using the Burning ROM portion in this other post (http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=3744).
I rely on Nero to burn two DVDs at once, and not get in the way of other things that are happening.

I'll look at the Imgburn and the Muxman.

Any other authoring programs worth a look? (Doesn't have to be freeware... I'm not one of "those").

I did look at Burn4free sometime in the past but uninstalled it....if I can get a handle on a program through it's interface, without a manual, then I'll use it.
If not, I don't waste my time.

I'd like to completely uninstall the Nero package.

If I do, how did you install just the burning rom and nothing else?

Thanks.

I went to mpucoder.com to take a look at Muxman.

I don't mind spending 20 bucks or whatever but just looking at the way the web site presents the software, I bet it's 20 bucks down the drain.

I don't see any user friendly documentation or tutorials or really "anything" that makes me feel comfortable with it.

No try before buy?

It looks like another one of those programs where the author is still thinking source code in presenting the product...rather than English.

Is there a demo or any guide anywhere for the program?

It took me a while to figure out what the problem was...
First, don't pay anything for MuxMan - use the freebie version.!.

I did a search for some comments on the VRD forum about MuxMan, and I'll list them below, but none were all that involved.
I think the truth is, you try the freebie version, fiddle with it a few minutes, and you are running.
It's pretty self-explanatory.
I once posted that I got it up without any more docs nor info, and had a test file within about 10 minutes.

=========================

I talk about MuxMan and other choices.
Link to MuxMan site.
Don't buy the pay-version; the freebie is just fine.
