Hi, I am brandspanking new to this, so as they....be gentle.

I am wanting to burn some TV programmes that were recorded to my PVR (Mediastar) so I can burn to a DVD via my PC.

I read about this videoredo so thought to give it go.
My procees so far is.....

- Connected my PVR to the PC
- downloaded videoredo plus trial
- found files of what i want to use (still on PVR) via opened video on videoredo
- there are 2 file types 1) .avr 2) .avf

- clicking on the .avf bring up this message (unable to open file H:\PVR|AV\CSI-Miami_#001_200702252138.AVF )

- clicking on the .avr file will bring up the videoredo but there is no sound
- I have checked my external speakers - all ok.
- I have copy the .avr file to the PC - still no sound
- I have looked through the tools>options and could see anything abnormal (not that I really know what I am looking at/for)

When customizing videoredo when I first ran the program it asked if I wanted to include certain things/files so not sure if this anything to do with it (as I didn't know what I was yes and no ing to)

So, can someone suggest a fix (and a thought why the .avf file is unable to open)

Thanks
Doobie

I was doing a bit of research to find out what a MediaStar was.
I found this 10 second review (http://www.10secondreview.com/discussion/3/mediastar-920pvr/) of the 920.
Okay, now I know that's a dual tuner unit for Australia...

This review on Good Gear Guide (http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/index.php/taxid;2136212607;pid;1548;pt;2) says one of the negatives is that it uses a proprietary video file format.
Here's more from the next page...
quote (http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/index.php/taxid;2136212607;pid;1548;pt;3#cb): "The file format is not proprietary either ("generic Transport Stream file - contains pids for video, mp2, ac3 & TTX subtitles"), just an unusual implementation that Windows cannot read out of the box. There are good solutions out there if you google."

Well, that's all the Googling I'm up for tonight.
Maybe it'll give the VRD folks a leg-up on commenting on this unit.

Of course, if the OP has any software which may have come with or be available for the MediaStar to extract standard video/audio, that should play with VideoReDo right away.

From my own bit of Googling, it appears that the .avf file contains some miscellaneous metadata and can probably be ignored. The .avr file is the one with all the data (and appears to be an MPEG2 Transport Stream, possibly with some propietary metadata at the start of it).

I'd be trying the following in VRD:

* Load a .avr file, then go to Tools menu->Select Stream and see whether there are other audio streams that can be selected. If so, try selecting one of these and see if there is now audio (both when you press the play button in VRD, and in the output).

* In Tools->Options->Stream Parameters, try checking the "Ignore Transport Stream Maps" option and then load a .avr file, and see if there is audio (both in VRD and in the output).

* You could always try changing .avr to .ts and see if that makes a difference when it is loaded (I doubt it will, but while you are trying things....)

Failing all that, you may want to cut off a 20-30MB chunk of the start of the file using VRD's Trim and Copy Tool, and then upload that to the VRD FTP site for the developers to look at (don't forget to also send an email to support@videoredo.com with the file details and referencing forum thread 3954).

Thanks Anole and HyperReality

HyperReality - you win. Under tools>stream parameters there were 2 1)private.... and 2) mpeg1. selected 2 and presto ...sound.

I hadn't looked in there (obviously) only under options.

Now the next thing is, how do I get it to stay on mpeg1...as when I closed it and re-stared it, it went back to 'private'. any thoughts on this.
Thanks

You will need to select the stream when you load the video.
