Hi everybody,
I have a problem:
* DVD rip to harddisk
* Start Videoredo 1.7.0.296
* Load file VTS_01_1.VOB (1GB) :?
* PC still works for minutes...(much harddisk work)
* Videoredo stucks (at nearly 950% CPU power)
* No success (must kill the task)
I have tried it with MPEG-VCR 3.14. It works !
How can I rip all chapters of a DVD to single mpg files with no convert of the original video format ?
Do you confirm with this ? Can you please help me ?
Bye Stefan :?

Try running QuickStream fix against the VOB file first. That should fix the problem. VOB files don't always record their timestamps in sequential order. We try to correct for that on the fly, but can't always do so. QuickStream fix will corrects it.

what dvd "back up" program are you using ? assuming its dvd decrypter you should be ripping in "IFO" mode and under settings choose "none" at the file splitting option . this will give you a single output file ...now for those of us and maybe you too - we run into a problem with movie size and dvd media size ..i haven't looked into anything better yet but when we use dvd shrink we get multiple files again and disableing file splitting in shrink causes some real jerky movies .also i've tried taking the dvd decrypter 'single file" ran it through vrd , then tried to shrink with dvd shrink , but, shrink doesn't recognize the vrd file... when i have to, i use dvd x copy express to "back up " my "purchased" dvd's, but only when i have to use it ,becuase you almosty always end up with a wide screen rather than full screen - even with full screen selected ?
so i am gonna throw this out to the room ..If anyone knows of a shrink program that is better than dvd shrink , and has used it in conjunction with vrd please tell us about it .

I use shrink with VRD on about 80% of my edited and authored DVDs. Never a problem. I edit the original MPEGs with VRD, then author to the harddrive and then shrink & burn.

DVDShrink is an awesome tool! I haven't had a problem (yet) with it.

so you guy's are saying that you ripped a dvd movie from its origonal - ran vrd then shrink and burn ? whenever i rip an ifo file -vrd wont open it - but will after i shrink it but then once i run it thru vrd i get a tonne of pts underflows and dropped resync frames like 188/387. what am i missing,. i sent you a clip yesterday ( dan) of a clip i did this with , and the log full of errors. im going to try it again but im positive that when u rip then use vrd - dvd shrink doesnt recognize the file - if im wrong ill post back head bowed and blushing .wish me luck - LOL

How are you ripping the file? Is it a commercial DVD or not?

Here's something interesting. How do you have the AC3 set parameter set on Tools>Options>General. It should automatic. Or better yet, use the latest beta build where VideoReDo handles the AC3 detection much better.
The log file you sent me is very, very strange. The timestamps are wierd (all showing 0:00.00). Needless to say, I don't have any problems with the uploaded file. Either with the latest beta or with Build 284.

damn - my fault dan i sent you the wrong clip and deleted the bad one - i think in the end though i sort of figured it out - maybe u can tell me.
i ripped the commercial dvd using dvd decrypter /IFO Mode/enabled stream processing/file splitting set to none. sent that to dvd shrink 3.2 as you know dvd shrink does a bad job if the file splitting is turned off - i left it on - loaded those files to vrd /add to joiner list /create video from joiner list - end result was huge pts underflows up to 380 some times and huge video resync dropped frames
i started back from scratch re-ripped the dvd / shrink it / vrd - but this time checked the - defualt output elementary streams option box at options/tools/general parameters . this resulted in the video that you recieved from me ( the wrong one arrgh) which brought the pts underflows down to 18 and no video resync frames dropped. i did this also through both the public release and the current beta ver.298 the beta did the better job for sure - congrats to you sir.
To answer your question - Yes AC3 Stream is/was set to automatic in all instances.
My question to you is what is default output elementary stream , and , should i have had to use it and will i need to use it in the future . my thinking is that the dolby digital audio is the culprit - becuase any other commercial dvd, from what i've done, dont need the defualt output elementary streams box checked - over to you ? LOL
my end goal is to be able to burn using ulead and preserve the high quality vs. burning as data . using dvd decrypter /dvd shrink will result in a file that ulead wont accept other than data unless i go- dvd decrypt/dvd shrink/vrd ,now i can load the clip in ulead and maintain that high quality - 720x480 - 8200KB/s - dolby digital audio etc .
But Video redo is definately the key to getting uleaddmf3dc to work this way - damn... VRD is...The ...KING !
let me know what u think of the -- enable output elementary streams question above -
til we meet again

Two points:
1) I would recommend Shrink as the last step rather than the first. That is:
RIP - DVDDecryptor is perfect for this.
Edit (with VRD of course).
Author - Ulead is OK, but output to the harddrive
Shirnk and Burn - as the last step. This way you'll be dealing with one large file until the Authoring step (Ulead) splits it into multiple files. Then Shrink won't have any problems. This is the method I use and never have problems.
2) There is no need to output to elementary streams unless your authoring program prefers it (like DVDLab). Or it makes the process so faster. I've never input elementary streams into Ulead so I can't say. Personally, I'd stick with program streams if its all the same.
