After I encode a DVR-MS file with VRD, I get what looks like white static or noise at the top of the screen. I get the same thing when I encode to m4p using PQ DVD to iPod. PQ DVD has a crop feature that I can use to crop out the noise. Anyone know why that noise is there? How can it be prevented/removed?

That is data, and the question gets asked from time to time.
No way you'd know how to search for a good answer without knowing the key words.
(which I don't remember, either) ;)

Take a look at my answer in this other thread (http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=4124).
The user was asking the same question.
Should bring you up to speed.

Feel free to post more in this thread if you have other questions about the situation.

Thanks for the pointer. So basically, it's just there to stay?

Well, you shouldn't be seeing it, with a proper display.
If you insist, it can be blanked, but it'd require complete re-encoding of the mpeg.
There are some tools that'll do it, but they'll take a lot of time to run.
And the output quality is always a question , when you do.

For instance, let's say you want to convert your mpeg to DivX for some reason.
That converter could remove the one or two top scan lines for you.

But if you are asking if VideoReDo can get rid of it, the answer is no.
VideoReDo goes out of its way to not re-encode video, except where it must: at edit points.
