So I am coverting DVD rips (VODs) into DVR-MS. "Preserve Closed Captions" selected in 'MSDVR Options'. However, I can't seem to display subtitles in the resulting DVR-MS file. Original DVD rip contains subtitles.
Any ideas??
VideoReDo only outputs 1 video and 1 audio stream. It does not output subtitles.

FYI: Closed Captioning and Subtitles are NOT the same thing. Closed Captions are originally stored as data directly in the VBI section of the video stream. (i.e. the flashing blacking white pixels you see at the top of TV captures) However when converting to MPEG those pixels can be lost, so most recorders interpret them and store them as private stream packets in the MPEG data. There is no standard for this, so almost every recorder stores the CC stream in a different way. (I believe DVR-MS uses the SAMI format) Subtitles on the other hand are stored on a DVD as bitmaps in special subtitle packets. They are not actually text, but images being displayed at specific times. There are some programs out there that can convert the CC data in files from specific recorders into DVD Subtitles (like T2Sami for TiVo files), but I don't know of anything that does the reverse as that would require some sort of OCR and would not be very reliable or practical.
If you want to play DVDs in MCE you should try the free My Movies (http://www.mymovies.name) program. It can play DVD folders or even ISO images directly from MCE.
