Hi,
have just downloaded and installed the program and got a Trial Key
I have tried doing a simple selection to try it out, but when I hit the Save As key and enter a file name it saves the whole mpg file
how do I save just the selection I want? It is not immediately obvious to me!
also, if I add to the Joiner I get the whole file not just the selection?
obviously I am doing something wrong - but what?
can someone please point me in the right direction?
thanks
When you edit, are you editing in cut mode or scene mode.
In cut mode the timeline starts as all green and cutting selections will turn part of the timeline red.
In scene mode the timeline starts as all red and adding selections will turn part of the timeline green.
When you save, only the section of the timeline that is green will be saved.
Are you loading the new edited file into VideoReDo to confirm the cuts?
Here is a guide to assist you.

Thanks phd - it is obvious now!
The guide was useful as well.
In your reply to CadillacCoke you mentioned the DVDCopy program you had written - I went to the ftp site but couldn't find the DVDCopy folder
Is it available elsewhere ?
thanks again
TC
The folder got deleted somehow. I've replaced the folder and the files.

I also replaced the VRD8 in the same folder:

I have downloaded the trial version as I think it will help me do what I want, but I'm obviously missing something basic. I have looked at the help and the PDF tutorials, but am still stuck.
I started with a large mpg file that contains all of a home video. I used scene mode and marked the beginning and end of each scene. What I want to do is have a bunch of mpg files to use with a program that can make a DVD with chapter points. One mpg file per chapter - one per selection that I made in VideoReDo.
When I save as, it correctly grabs all the scenes (leaving out some static, shots of people's feet, etc) but I get one big file not one per selection.
Is what I want to do possible?
Having saved the project file with all the scenes, I guess I can delete all but one, Save As, then reload the project, delete all selections but the second, etc., but that'd be a bit tedious if there's some way to just have it save one file per selection.
Nero lets me add chapter points, but as it recodes the MPEG, the quality stinks. I really like the idea of being able to splice the MPEG without any recoding, but I'd also like to be able to mark all the chapters in one project.
What am I missing?
Thanks
Since you have created one big project file, you would either need to select individual scenes or search the forum for Harry's Tool which will split up a project file.
In the future to save your file as separate segments, try Batch Manager.
Click on the menu: Tools>Start Batch Manger and specify your destination directory. Click "Done" to return to the main editing screen.
It is easier to use scene mode in this case.
Select "Scene Mode" and "Queue To Batch Clears Cut List" in Tools>Options>General Parameters)
Select each segment individually and add it to the Batch with Ctrl+B
Select your next segment and add to Batch with Ctrl+B
Continue until you have selected all of your segments then click Tools>Start Batch Manger and press the "Save and Execute" button. Your files will be saved as individual segments.
Also many DVD authoring programs could handle one big file and you could create chapter marks. You might want to review these 2 links or look at some of the other posts on the forum.
