I have transferred several .REC files from my Topfield 5000 and have used MPEG audio settings as detailed in several posts. Does this actually record in Dolby Digital ? or is it purely 2 channel stereo? I just notice a large difference in the audio quality of the menu (that I create with Nero) as opposed to the general TV show audio quality..the menu audio is normally alot louder than each episode volume.
any info would be appreciated
You can check the properties of the file in VideoReDo. Ctrl+L
Does Nero have an option to adjust menu volume?

I'll check the properties of the file.
No, I don't know of any way in Nero where audio volume can be adjusted? Possibly can do it by downgrading the audio quality of the menu music??

To adjust the volume in Nero(Vision) 6, choose 'edit movie'. If in timeline mode, right click on the blue strip and select 'properties'. If in storyboard mode, right click on a scene and select 'properties'. In either case you can adjust the audio level, which defaults to 33% of the original and thus causes the difference you've been hearing. Changes in audio level only affect the curently selected segment/scene.
Why it defaults to this value is beyond me, since apart from the problem you've found it means the audio is always re-encoded, adding needlessly to processing time or at best adding a needless step when you import the file. To avoid re-encoding put the volume to 100%.
If you have Nero 7 it sounds like the same thing is happening, but I can't help with figuring out how to track it down.
