View Full Version : clips are too fast

I just got videoredo, and was trying to trim and combine mpg2 files.

The mpg2's were captured with an all in wonder 9600pro card, using the ATI program to capture.

Videoredo shows it correctly as 29.97 fps. Videoredo shows bit rate as 8mpbs. It was captured at variable bit rate, with max of 8, target of 7.
Resolution is 720x480.

But, when I play it on videoredo, it plays back at high speed. When I use videoredo to combine mpg2 files, the new files play back at high speed when I view the mpg2's with a different program.

Any advice?

Wanted to add something.
Clips are not playing too fast, I just checked with my watch, but they sound too fast, kind of like chipmonks.

audio was captured at 48khz.

But, when I play back the videoredo output with another program, it plays back way too fast.

Hi Randy,

What is the audio - LPCM or MPEG?

But, when I play it on videoredo, it plays back at high speed. When you saved the file, did VideoReDo say that it had to resync any of the audio or video? If you don't remember, look in the VideoReDo.log file. In fact, just email me the file (support@videoredo.com).

Roughly, how much faster does it play?

What was the original source material, off the air, VHS tape, other?

My guess is that videoredo detected some missing video frames and tried to remove audio frames to resynchronize things. We've seen some of this with VHS tape dubbings.

I can verify what is going on, if you could upload a 10-20 MB clip to our FTP site: ftp://videoredo:videoredo@ftp.drdsystems.com/ . Use the Tools>Trim option to extract from the original video, put the file in the uploads directory and let me know when you've done so via an email: support@videoredo.com.

I don't remember a resync message. Everything is at home, so I can get the log file and send it to you tonight.

Maybe 2x or 3x, I did not measure, but I can.

Source was 8mm home video tapes from a old Sony camcorder. Hooked the sony up to my AIW card for capture. During the capture, I may have dropped 10 frames in a hour, at most. Did not have any problems feeding it into dvd-lab to convert into a dvd.

OK, I will try to do that tonight.

Thanks. Looking foward to looking at the files.
Maybe 2x or 3x, I did not measure, but I can. No need to spend any effort on this other than getting me a sample clip that demonstrates the problem and a copy of your log file. I'll try and do the rest.

Randy, The sample that I need to be uploaded should be from the orignal source file, not the output from VideoReDo.

Nevermind

Looks like most of my problems are a windvd bug.

I was trying to cut up an MPG to send, and noticed the cut up one played fine, even if it was cut up from a "bad" mpg (I did not see you last post).

So, then I tried playing the mpg with a different program, and it plays fine, not too fast. Seems like windvd does not like large files, oh well, I got it free with my motherboard.

I do still have one question, why does my audio sound like the chipmonks?
I put a small clip on your ftp site, called smalleraa2.mpg. Maybe you could try playing it, and see how it sounds there.

Make that I tried to put a file on your FTP. Not sure if it worked or not, I got an error message at the end.

I couldn't find the file on the site. Try uploading again, here's the ftp address: ftp://videoredo:videoredo@ftp.drdsystems.com/

Randy, Is the smallerAA2 file on the FTP site yours? If so, thanks for the upload, I found the problem. The sound was recorded in Mono and one of the internal variables was hardcoded to stereo. Sound great now. Contact me via email about getting an interim release.

If that isn't Randy's file, will the original owner please step forward! :)
