Ya'think if we asked DanR or Pat when they were planning their vacations this year it might give us an idea of when the much anticiapated VRD with authoring might be released? <Big Big Grin>

Vacations, what are they?

Here's the status of the DVD authoring: Authoring has been undergoing alpha testing internally and with a very small group of users. Overall, we are quite pleased with the progress. We think we've hit upon a nice balance of features and ease of use. As with other aspects of VideoReDo, much of the authoring process is automatic and can be cusomtized to your own look and feel via a variety of option screens. However if you want to dig deeper there is quite a bit of capability to support the more advanced user.

Our current plans, subject to change of course, is to release authoring as a low-cost upgrade to the current user community around the end of June or early July. Users who upgrade during this period will be offered a discount. Then during July and August we will flush out any remaining problems and add some additional features before the formal release at the end of the summer.

There are some interesting changes to the GUI in progress and also a couple of major "advanced" features that aren't done yet. We hope to have those completed in the next couple weeks so that we can tell you what the feature set of the first release will be.

Current users will receive an email when authoring is available and there will be a new trial process so you can give it a complete workout before deciding if you want to purchase the upgrade. The authoring version will not conflict with the operation of VideoReDo version 2.5.x so you'll be able to run both side by side.

Going by VRD's track record, count me in as purchaser, sight unseen, no trial necessary.

Pricing will be announced when we formally announce availability of the product. Rest assured that upgrades for current users will be quite low.

WOW, Dan, Thanks!

Had only posted that in jest. I know from personal experience just how annoying it can be to be pestered with dozens of "Is it done yet"s.

I'm a relatively newcomer to VRD, but absolutely love the program. Am eagerly looking forward to the authoring version. Knowing the quality of VRD and the extremely reasonable pricing of it, I have no concerns about the quality of this new version nor its upgrade cost.

Thanks for doing such a great job!

Thanks for the update Dan.

VRD is all ready one of the best editing programs that I have every used. Adding the DVD authoring program to the package will make it even better. Can't wait for the release so I can try it.
Thanks again..

What about users who recently bought or is about to buy VideoReDo ? Do they need to pay for the upgrade or do they get it free ? I'm evaluating VideoReDo now and I don't know whether I should wait for the upgrade to be available before purchasing. Thanks.

As an exerienced user of VideoRedo from way back could I request access to alpha test DVD authoring of forthcoming TV suite..
I live and work in the PAL world and would love a suite to author mpeg2 DVB broasdcast files without re-encoding..
I have experience of Ulead and Adobe Encore
