It would be really nice to be able to hit a fast foward and a rewind button instead of having to have to grab and drag the slider only for viewing at a certain rate of speed. I capture videos and like to look through them to see if there are scenes that I feel are innappropiate for my kids and be able to edit them out, and it would make it much easier if this feature was included. You might be able to just put a timer event on the buttons on the program that detects if you hold the buttons down for so many milliseconds that it would just start acting like a fast foward button skipping as many frames as was set in the options screen (so you could control how fast the fast foward button would react) or just add new buttons for fast foward and rewind that you could adjust the speed in the options screen.

You have ton's of play speed options in the 'Tools' 'Options' 'Navigation' menu!

Using the L/R arrow keys in conjunction with Ctrl &/or Shift, you have your request built in.

You do have to keep the keys pressed though.... I thought there was a way to FF it without holding down the keys all the time. Try looking in the help file if you need more info.

Thanks Peter , I didnt look at those settings in the options page or understood what they did. They do work for me, still all the same, buttons for these two things on the main screen as fast forward and fast rewind would still be nice. THANKS for the fast response.

Peter is right, just press and hold the arrow key combinations or page up / page down and you can zip through pretty darn quickly. Also, our new automatic advert detection offers an option to visually scan through the program although that might be too quick for your purposes.

The Elecard Moonlight player (the program I used to use to make video clips before I got VideoReDo) has a set of buttons that allow you to "skip" through a show in 1, 2, 5, 10, 15 and 30 second intervals. You click on the "fast forward" or "fast reverse" buttons and it starts skipping through the show in that direction until you click the button again. I find it extremely handy when looking for a particular scene in a long show. I don't have to hold a mouse or keyboard button down for long periods of time.

 My suggestion for VideoReDo: When the Fast Forward (>> >>> >>>>) or Fast Reverse (<<<< <<< <<) buttons are left clicked, they operate just like they do now - advancing by 1, 10 or 30 seconds and then stopping. But when they are RIGHT clicked, the buttons go down and stay down (automatically repeating) until they are clicked again.

That's not a bad idea. Will look at implementing like that after we get our next release out.

now, as everybody is asking for buttons - I would like a few more too ;)

What about 2 buttons to scroll to the start and the very end of the video -
sometimes, when I grab the slider, I miss these points for a few 0.000
seconds, and when I'm not aware of the time display, I'm getting wrong
cuts ...

Just 2 more buttons - there is still much space left:

Jean,

There really isn't as much space left as you think. The screen is designed for 800x600. I know that when you expand the screen there's lots blank space but we haven't made the leap to using it on a selective basis.

You know, of course, that home and end keys will jump to the start and end.

Here's another trick. Go to Tools>Options>Navigation and set the 4 arrow button value to something large, like 20000 seconds. This will cause the last buttons to jump to the start and end.

hi,

yes, I appreciate to take into account users with low resolution monitors, and
too about home / end keys and custom definitions of the forward buttons ....
I'm just a little bit button-click addicted, it seems ;)

yup, me too.

for a mouse clicker the 3 forward and 3 backward step buttons are absolutely unnecessary as we mostly use the slider to get to our goals. i don't use these 6 buttons at all.

what would be necessary for us are - instead of the 6 buttons - a button for next/previous cut marker and buttons for start/end of movie. but the home/end could as well be achieved with the jump to cut marker buttons, ie if no cut marker any more on left, then jump to start.

hands up if some of us mouse clickers disagrees :D

.... so what about a sort of compromise ;)
not more buttons, but extended values to customize the buttons -
my >>>>-button will jump to the very end, Harry's <<<-button will
go to the previuos cut, Dan's >>-button will do the standard jump etc. -
depending on individual configuaration.

Jean, you already have what you need by setting the parameters in the options dialog. Its Harry that's going to be wanting.

hi Dan,

hmm, fast ;)

actually, this option is limited to 5000 seconds ;) but I know that
one can use it as start-end navigation in this way. I was just suggesting
to enhance these options if it's not approbiate to extend the number
of buttons ...

actually, this option is limited to 5000 secondsDIdn't realize that. If you want, you can always go into the registry and edit it manually to what ever you want.

If the "Button3" value in the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DRD Systems\VideoReDo\NavigationParameters

suggestion, additional , for buttons -
put the buttons on top of each other -

reverse buttons on top of forward buttons, or vice versa

example

<<< << <
>>> >> >

reason -
if I rapidly scroll forward through a file, find a commercial or brreak point, and accidentally overshoot it, I can more easily go in the oposite direction, with the button above or below what I did click.
I can then get to the next finer-tuned button, also, rather than going left, or right, with the mouse

I can detail more if desired.
thanks

We've recently started our UI update project. The goal of this project is to let you totally customize the VideoReDo look and feel. This is a 3 phase project:

Phase 1) Customized keyboard mappings. You'll be able to assign any keyboard combination to any function.

Phase 2) Control relocation: The ability to move controls around the screen.

Phase 3) Skinning: The ability to change the bit maps for all controls. Hopefully our user community will contribute some interesting skins.

i'm looking forward to this :D

imo phase 2 and 3 have to be combined as skinning is as well relocating. i hope you're gonna do the full skinning way with different sizes and locations of buttons instead of just exchanging fixed format bitmaps.
