I have a Topfield 5800 and do not normally have a problem saving my VideoReDo edited .rec files as MPEG to burn to DVD.

I have a .rec file which is 6.2gb in size which I have edited, however I'm not sure which format I need to save it as, in order to shrink it down using DVD Shrink, maybe somebody can advise me.

As well as DVD Shrink I also have Nero 7 Premium, could I use that instead?.

You will lose significant quality cramming this onto a 4gb DVD, if the video is important, consider buying a few Dual Layer DVD's which will give you ample space to do it all in one go - assuming your drive can burn Dual Layer.

If you cannot do that, Nero gives you a couple of options, use nero vision express to import the video (which you've saved from VRD as MPEG) and generate your menus etc, save the output to your Hard Disk and then use Nero Recode to cram it onto a smaller DVD.

(I don't think Nero Vision Express gives you the option of reducing the files size to fit a smaller DVD, and can't check as it's not installed on the machine I'm using at the moment, but if you can do it through that, that will save you a step)

This is how I've done it in the past, but I've only been working with this type of stuff for the last 6 months, so am relatively new to it all - someone else may know a better way!!
