View Full Version : batch manager problems with Server 2003

Does anyone else have problems running batch manager with server 2003? If I process each file separately, the program works fine. If I queu up a handful (up to 8 sometimes) on the batch manager, the output files are only about 2 meg in size, which is pretty consistent, and there are no "completed successfully" entries for these files in the log. I have a Windows XP computer that works better, but it still has the problem files about one out of each group. I am attempting to batch process beyond tv3 projects to remove commercials.

Can you try this: Instead of executing the .cmd file from inside our batch window, open up a cmd window yourself and execute the .cmd file from the command prompt. This should isolate the problem to either the batch manager or the script itself.
FYI, since you are a BTV user you might be interested in this thread: http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/viewtopic.php?t=411&highlight=wscript

I just had the opportunity to try a batch process command again. This time, I built the batch file in VideoRedo, then ran the CMD file from the command prompt. Same result. I think there is a slight difference in the versions of the scripting support between Xp and 2003. I'm not familiar with it myself, but did find some notes on the microsoft pages that they were basically the same. The same process, with the same files, worked fine from an Xp machine.

At the cmd prompt, please type in the cmd: "cscript /?". What is the version # on the first line?

Looks like I'll need to find a WinServer 2003 to check this out. We will load it up under VMWare so no problem finding a machine. You don't have an extra 2003 license do you? :)

I think we tracked down the WinServer 2003 problem to a timing issue in the script. Before we develop a more "bullet proof" solution, can you test it on your system?
You'll need to modify the vp.vbs script using a text editor such as Notepad.
1) Open vp.vbs in your VideoReDo installation folder (might be a good idea to make a copy of this file first, just in case).
2) About 3/4 into the script you'll see a comment line: ' wait until output done.
3) Just before this line insert the following line:
wscript.sleep 2000
4) Save the vp.vbs, and then re-do your batch processing. On our WinServer 2003 it fixed the problem every time.

The extra code worked. Thanks!

Thanks. We will get that addressed in the next build.

Still having this problem in the latest build, I even manually added the line above but still has the problem.
Looks like the problem is in the lines of the script that references the VideoRedo in lines 37 and line 47 error out at different these points at different times. Any word on a fix?
thanks

I haven't had any more problems with the program. I actually run a batch file referenced in the following thread:
http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/viewtopic.php?t=411&highlight=wscript
This script runs once a day and processes all the files in the directory to take the commercials out.

That's great. I think we will include that script in our next release so others can take advantage of it.

When that script is run, if you make changes to the cuts and do a save will that script pick those up. I make changes to what BTV gives me, can I still use that script?
Thanks

VideoReDo does not overwrite the BTV chapters.xml file. But, you can load the chapters.xml into VideoReDo, and save the results as .VPrj or .BPrj projects.
Then, a simple mod to the script to look for .VPrj or .BPrj files instead.

I tried putting in a longer delay but that does not seem to be the problem, I then ran it from a command prompt but still errored out. Here is the command prompt text.

C:\Program Files\VideoReDo\vp.vbs(38, 1) Microsoft VBScript runtime error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable: 'VideoReDo.IsOutputInProg

As you can see the first three worked fine but errored out on the fourth.
The script has the extra delay line in it as suggested before.
Any ideas?
thanks

Are you running the batch file from the same pc that beyond tv is on and records the shows to? I have no problems with the timeout now, and VideoRedo, BeyondTV, and the shows are all one one computer. In case that makes a difference in this case.

Mike,
3 questions: 1) What build of VideoReDo are you using?
2) On the instance that errored out, how large an output file was created?
3) Did you try running that project file inside VideoReDo to make sure its batch that is messing up?

I am using 1.7.0 320.
The final file is 1.3Gb and the file edits were completed.
it errors out after the cuts are made and the rest of the script is running, there is an error box that pops up and asks if I want to debug and I answer no and it says I am trying to access memory that is invalid, sometimes it tells me I am accessing memory at location 00000000.
Also the BPRJ that is supposed to be deleted is still there.
It seems that anytime VideoRedo is accessed in the script after the cuts are made is when it sometime errors.
The same occurs inside or outside of VideoRedo.
I am running this on the same machine as BTV, where the shows are recorded and VideoRedo on the same machine.
Thanks
Mike

Did your edits including the material at the end of the file? BTV stuffs program information at the end of the file, and does so in a non-standard way. I'm wondering if VideoReDo is choking on that?
If that's the case, using ToolsLTrim create a clip of the last 10 MB of the file. Then load and save it, without making any cuts. Would be interesting to see if VideoReDo has a problem with that. If it doesn, please upload it.

It loads OK and then when I save it says there are no cuts found and also asks me if I want to remux the whole file. Do you want me to or should I just upload that 10MB section?
thanks
Mike
Also where to I upload it to?
DanR
February 9th, 2005, 01:30 PM
Hi Mike,
When it asks you to remux, say yes. No point in uploading if saving doesn't re-create the problem. Our FTP address is: ftp://upload:upload@videoredo.net
If we can't duplicate the problem with uploading, you can always snail mail us the original file and project on a data DVD.

It worked fine, I really don't think that that it is in the main program but it is in something that has to do with the scripts.
It errors out at the points such as the following:
while( VideoRedO.IsOutputInProgress() )
and
VideoReDo.Close()
It is like it is trying to use something in VideoRedo but it is already closed or something like that.
Thanks
Mike

If it errors out here: "while( VideoRedO.IsOutputInProgress() ) "
It means that VideoReDo is no longer running. Thats why I don't think its in the batch script.
Deuce911
February 9th, 2005, 03:51 PM
Yes I agree with you, it thinks that VideoRedo is no longer running and when it hits either of those points it sometimes errors out. Now the reason that I think VideoRedo is not running is that it closes down due to a memory access violation, maybe the next time it does it I can do a screen capture because there are like 3 error screens that I have to click through then the script continues.
What is the best way to do a screen capture?
Thanks
Mike
DanR

With memory access violations, a screen shot won't help. Please don't waste your time on that.
Can you email me your project file (VPRJ/BPRJ) that causes the crash(support@videoredo.com)? That will be a help.
Thanks.
Deuce911
February 9th, 2005, 04:00 PM
I could but the problem is it may happen on a file one time and when I try again it works, it is very unpredictable.
I have even switched memory sticks on the machine just to eliminate the chance of memory being bad.
Thanks
Mike

I didn't realize that. Send me the project file anyway, want to see where the last cut is.

Now that you mention it maybe it is happening on files that I cut the very end off of the file. Let me try it now on a few files and see if there is any similarities in the files it errors out on.
Thanks
Mike
