Is this doable? I have the Hauppauge MediaMVP device and it doesn't stream DVD files. Can I use VideoRedo to load in the VOB files and write out a *.m2v and *.mpa file? Then I can use something to mux them back together into a MPEG2? Thanks.

VideoReDo can do what you say, but if your DVD uses AC3 then you'll have a problem playing it on the MVP. VideoReDo doesn't yet convert AC3 to MPA.

I can use something like BeSweet to convert AC3 to MPA so that's not a problem.

How would I do this in VideoRedo? Do I have to load each VOB by itself, write out the files and then onto the next one? Thanks..

You can use our batch manager. Set VideoReDo to use "Cut mode" in the tools>options>general page.

Then start the batch manager from the Tools menu. Make sure your destination folder and/or prefix is set correctly. And Elementary Streams is checked.

Click on the Button next to the source file. In the file open dialog select all your VOB files at once. When you click OK they will be added to the batch manager at the same time.

Thanks, Dan. I'll give this a shot tonight when I get home from work.

Lest anyone think that we're a bunch of potential pirates, ripping our DVD's, there is a very legitimate use for AC3 to MPA conversion. Standard Definition digital TV broadcasts use AC3 and I'd love to be able to play them on my MediaMVP after capturing with my HDTV tuner card.

Regarding using DVDDecryptor to output VOBs, it also outputs a .txt file containing info like:

0xC0 - Audio - MPEG-1 / 2ch / 48kHz / 16bit / LBA: 26 / PTS: 00:00:00.240 / Delay: -74ms
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 16:9 / Letterboxed / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.315 / Delay: 0ms

I am presuming these different 'Delay' figures indicate that the video and audio streams start at different times. Does VideoReDo handle this and sync them up correctly? I thought delays like this were stored in the IFOs, in which case how will VideoRedo know about them?

VideoReDo does not automatically resync files. It is a manual adjustment based upon what you hear.

There is a display regarding the msec offset for the sync based upon the slider.

I am not talking about resyncing, I am asking whether VideoRedo preserves the *original* sync correctly fom the VOB (and IFO, *if* there is sync info in there too).

The current version of VideoReDo does NOT read any info from the IFO file. Are you having a sync problem or simply wondering about the relationship between VideoReDo and the DVDDecryptor.txt file?

Simply wondering... all I'm after is a method of turning DVDs into mpgs that I can have confidence in.

I do not know whether there is sync info in the IFOs, but since I've seen mention of offsets in IFOEDIT, and DVDDecryptor produces this file with offsets in addition to the extracted VOB, I thought there might be.

Its a good question, and we've already started doing some additional research into that field. But, so far, we haven't had sync issues from DVD extractions. Whether or not DVDDecrypter is compensating for that offset or not I can't say. But we will continue to investigate.

You probably want to check out DVD2SVCD (http://www.dvd2dvd.org/) which will rip and convert your DVDs to a form that the MediaMVP will be happy with. Almost as easy to use as VideoReDo! ;)
