I use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0 to write transport stream files to tape on my HDV camcorder. If I edit the files with VRD (2.5.6.512), however, that option no longer works. If I select one of the edited files in Vegas I get the error "The file type is unknown". I can write the unedited files to tape without any problems. Did VRD change the files in some way to make them unrecognizable to Vegas? Any ideas? Thanks.

What format do you save the files as from VideoReDo?
Is your version of Vegas capable of importing that type of file?
Does Vegas perhaps need to convert the file first to write to tape?

In VideoReDo I saved it as a Transport Stream (.ts). I've also tried saving it as an MPEG Program Stream (.mpg) but still get the same error in Vegas.
Vegas recognizes the .ts file output from VideoReDo as a MainConcept MPEG-2 file. It also identifies the original captured footage (a .m2t file) as the same thing. I can add the edited clip to a new project in Vegas, but if I use this approach I think everything is re-encoded before it's saved to tape (it takes forever). I think the option I'm using ("Make Movie > Save it to your HDV camera") just dumps the transport stream back to the HDV camcorder without any re-encoding (which is what I was hoping for). This is the option that no longer works.

Have you tried simply saving the file as a TS and renaming it to M2T?

If you want to upload a small clip of a file that works to our FTP site we would be glad to take a look at it. If you do, please send an email to support @ videoredo.com and mention Topic=5094 in the subject.

For .ts, doesn't VRD strip out Null Packets by default?
Would that matter?
If so, isn't there an option to restore those bytes?
There's a whole page of TS options, but I don't know how any of them might affect the file.

I unchecked the Transport Stream Output option to omit null packets but I still get the same results. I'll try some other options and see what happens.
Thanks phd and Anole for the suggestions. I appreciate your help.
DanR -- I'm posting a small clip now...thanks for offering to take a look at it.

Also try using CapDVHS to export the video back to your camcorder.

Thanks once again VRDWas this the uploaded test file, or just a normal videoredo ts file. Also, which audio encoder does it use?
