there seems to be an error when attempting to burn a DVD.
On the "Create DVD" menu, it showes the DVD needs -0.51GBytes, and then I get an error message saying there is not enough disc space (even though there is 7GB free. Also tried anither HDD wth 51G free, similar error.

Wow, that's wierd. Are you cutting material or trying to make a dvd of the whole file?
Can you go back to the main screen and click on the switch button in the lower right of screen. What are the file sizes listed there?

Ok, I was triming the start & end of a 2.5hr movie... and Program/Selection/Output file sizes were -674.93M ??? (see attachment)
If I reduced the output quality to 2.5Mbps, then the green band on the Estimated DVD Size moves to 2G, and it works ...
If this is related to orginal file size vs DVD file size, can VRD automatically calulate output quality bitrate based on best fit?
I am converting DVR-MS files from MediaCentre (XP).

OK, it's an issue with calculating sizes for DVR-MS files. That was a last minute add-in so we obviously messed something up there :( What is the original size of your DVR-MS file?
If this is related to orginal file size vs DVD file size, can VRD automatically calulate output quality bitrate based on best fit?
It does that automatically, but I think the problem is with the DVR-MS size routine. We will get it fixed.
You can check it out, by converting your DVR-MS to MPG and then loading and authoring the mpeg.

Original DVR-MS file was 7,697MB.
A trimmed mpg file of 6.347MB, does auto calculate the bitrate to fit on one DVD.

Thanks, that confirmed by suspicions. We will get it fixed.

There's a problem in the way we are getting the size of DVR-MS > 4GB. Should be pretty simple to fix for the next build.

parse, Where are you getting the negative source size? I just tried it here (build 549) on a 6.5GB dvr-ms file and it seemed to work fine, although I didn't actually the file.
