View Full Version : titler confusion

I was researching how to get the TITLER to make a slate to insert in the middle of a show that has some missing time.
I've given up trying to recover from two missing laps in a race, and just need to get on with my life.

I searched back , and on 5/4 someone asked exactly how to run the Titler.
Here was the answer:
Start VRD
Load a video
Click on the menu: Tools>Title Editor
You are presented with the Title editor window.
Click Add Text Box to add your text.
Background can be a solid color or a background image.
When you have made your adjustments, click the OK button.
Save your video.
Load the new edited file and you will see the title at the beginning of the video.
Well, I made myself a 12 second black by clipping out a bunch of black times from a show...
Then, I invoked the Titler as directed, above.
Ii was able to get some white text on a dark blue background, that said what I wanted.
Then, I did a file save.

TVS took the CPU to 100% for a minute or two, then quit, and released memory it was using.
The program just exited, leaving a zero-sized file.
As always, I'm running 544x480 video.

I'm not suggesting it's broken - most likely I've gone astray.
Don't have any recent experience with the Titler, so I'm rusty and may have overlooked something.

Can I buy a clue?

Does the black section you created save OK by itself?

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong but I just made an 8 second section from a title, using your "How It's Made" upload from a while back. (I think it was yours)

I took a 544x480 mpeg (content unimportant but the resolution and audio specs must match the mpeg you're going to add the final result into) and added a title. You can select the length and fade-in/fade-out times in the options menu. I put simple text on a black page (you could add a graphic). Selected the first 30 seconds of the mpeg and saved. TVS will encode the title to match the resolution and audio of the mpeg.

Then I opened the clip that I had just created, which had an 8 second title and 30 seconds of the video. I selected only the title section and output it as a mpeg. The final result was a one Mb, 7 second file containing only the black screen with text at the resolution and audio that matched the original 544x480 file. This file should be able to be combined between the two sections of the race.

Pat - yes
Zaph - that's what I was basically trying to accomplish.

I'll get a good night's sleep and try again tomorrow.
Thanks everyone, for the input and encouragement.

I'm sure I will find a solution to this:

TVS took the CPU to 100% for a minute or two, then quit, and released memory it was using.
The program just exited, leaving a zero-sized file.

Oh, and here is my previous brick wall on this same micro-project:

I just can't seem to catch a break! :)
