View Full Version : Enhancement requests
Hi,
Firstly, congratulations on a fantastic product. I'd been using Video Redo+ for a while and thought it was great. I've just started using TV Suite and I reckon its even better now that I can produce a DVD all from the one package. (Rec file from Digital set to box)
I'm currently using 549 and have noticed a few minor things that I reckon would be worth looking at.
On the DVD Authoring side of things.
1. Even if the Erase RW media checkbox is ticked, it still asks you if you want to erase the disk. This is after you've kicked of the process and left it expecting it to take a few hours. You come back expecting it to be finished and it's sitting there prompting you, asking if you want the disk to be erased. I'd say it should automatically do it if you tick the checkbox.
2. It would be nice if the parameters for the Authoring could be saved along with the project. Its a bit fiddly when you have a number of goes at the same project and you have to re-set up the menu screen, the background etc.
3. Along those lines, could the project also save the list of titles added to the output list.
4. It would be nice if the estimated time to finish would display in hours and minutes rather than just minutes. I think 5:10 is easier to understand than 310 mins. Trivial, I know but it would be good.
Cheers
Paul
1. It should. It works here.
What make/model burner are you using? Are you using +RW or -RW?
2&3. You can currently save the list of titles. Not all of the parameters. In the "DVD title list editing" window, look at the top menu. you can load and save DVD projects.

Paul, what are you rendering that takes 5 hours?
Read posts 22 through 24 of THIS (http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=5664) thread.
Rather than having TVS encode your files to fit on a 4.7 disc, use the Folder Only (10GB Max) option then use DVDShrink if needed. Much quicker.

I just did a series with 7 episodes of 45 mins each.
Uncompressed output was about 11-12gb.
I set it to burn directly to a dual layer disc. Output bit rate was about 3.22
At the start the estimated time was around 400 mins. I left it running overnight.
Computer is 2.8gig P4. 1gb ram. 320 mb hdd.

The plan was to have the one product do it all. That way I could kick it off and leave it running overnight without interruption.
I'm sure it could be done quicker with DVD Shrink, but then I would have to do another manual step. The idea being that I can kick it off at night or before I go to work, then come home and have the dvd done.
Up until I got TVS I'd nearly always used DVD shrink and Nero. Nero has so many problems and limitations that I was glad when TVS came along.

PRR the auto erase feature should work. Can you send me your log file?

Will do. Where is the log file stored?
I'll re-test the auto-erase function just to make sure that I wasn't dreaming.
To view the log file and save it to a new location for submission by email, click on the menu: Help>Display VideoReDo.log
After re-testing the auto erase option twice it has now made a liar of me. It works fine. It didn't prompt me so works as expected.
I found the save DVD projects option on the DVD title list screen so thanks for that. (Would be nice if it saved the entire project though)
One new issue I've found though is, that it would be nice if the Create DVD side of things would remember the previous settings. I have 2 burners and only use the second one (Drive F:) After having it do the rendering overnight, I woke up expecting it to be finished, but I was prompted with the Burn To DVD screen telling me to put a disc in because it had defaulted to drive E: instead of F: This has happened a few times now which means you can't kick it off and forget it. Any chance of this being added in a future release?
Cheers

I've often found the time displayed in the Output Complete box to be a little unfriendly.
If that were changed from seconds to minutes, I think it might be a nice improvement.
And make that Output Complete box bigger so if there are a few errors, it doesn't need to scroll!
Now , as to the expected time to finish... !
What I want to know, is % done, and how long it's been running.
By all means calculate time to completion - I have nothing against that, but it's just not helpful to me.

I have two burners as well. What I do if I think it will not use the burner I have a dvd in, I put a dvd in both burners now and it can take it's pick.
It's only a workaround, but it would nice to see this problem addressed...

The DVD burner is suppose to select the first available drive with blank media in it. Again I'll need to see the logs to see what happened in your case.

I am using the 549 version. I have two Samsung Sata DVD Burners E and F, I put a dvdr in to F, and TVS went looking in E and would not go any further till I put a disk in to E.
Here's a partial listing of the log file...
That functionality is broken in 549. We will have a fix out soon.

Thanks for the info DanR...
We have a temporary fix you can try. I appears to resolve the issue here.
Go to the upload site and copy the 2 files in the folder named "TVS burner" to the folder where you have TVSuite installed on your computer.
ftp://upload:upload@videoredo.net/
Let us know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks Pat, I will try this fix out and get back to you asap...
Edit: It skipped the empty E drive burner, and picked up the disk in the F drive and is now burning to dvd. Many thanks for the fix... :D

This thread says there's a way to save a dvd edit list.
Is this implemented in the 549 release (not beta)?
If so, I can't find it. On the edit dvd list I see no menu, just 4 side buttons, 4 bottom buttons, 1 checkbox, and the file list panel. Am I missing something here?

The little word "file" in the top left is actually a save menu for DVD projects.
