Betas 553 and 552 have known issues with DVD authoring/burning.

If I have quite a number of DVDs to make, would it be advisable to wait for 554 rather than downgrading to 551?

From a users perspective:

If you don't care about preserving CCs, I found that 551 worked OK for me. I used it for making DVDs containing 8 episodes of kid's programs from PBS.

If you care about CCs and 553 doesn't work for the type of files you are trying to author, wait for 554.

I have one project I that needs CCs, so I'm going to wait. For the DVDs I make for my grand children, 551 will be the one I use if I make another before 554 is released.

Build 551 preserves CCs. I use build 549 and it preserves CCs. If that's your goal, downgrade to 549.

If your projects include videos of more than one frame size, you might run into a problem with one of the versions before 551 (either 550 or 549).
I had a case when making a DVD with 8 files that gave an error when it was about at the end of the task. After many test cases, I found out that one of the files in the project had a frame size of 640 x 480 and the remainder were 720 x 480. Each file type compiled by itself, but when they was more than one type in a project, the build failed.

I think I substituted the problem file for one of the same frame size as all others and it proceded without a hitch. The problem, what ever it was, was corrected in 551.

551 is very stable, and since 554+ might be a while getting to a release, I think we will release 551 as a maintenance release.
