View Full Version : DVR-MS Duration Issue in 553

I have edited the commercials out of two Vista MC recordings with the 553 beta, and I have the same issue with both. When playing back the edited file in VMC, the time slider stops at right around 1 hour and 33 minutes. In both cases, the edited file is around 1 hour and 49 minutes long (basketball games). Once the 1:33 point is reached in the file, the file will continue playing in VMC if no buttons are pressed (rewind, fast forward, skip, pause, etc.). However, if any of these buttons are pressed, the window is resized, etc., VMC reports that the file has reached its end, and presents the usual option to keep or delete.

These were recorded with an HDHomeRun, and I was able to eventually fix the durations with FixDVRMSDuration.exe from babgvant's blog site. That said, this issue is very annoying, and I had not experienced this before with VRD Plus.

Has anyone else seen this behavior from 553-edited DVR-MS files?

A couple of days ago a two-hour show I was recording on HDHomeRun ended up being only 1 hour 33 minutes also. I was fairly sure at the time that it was due to an error in the recording, maybe a problem with the program guide (Schedules Direct). Since then, I have recorded a couple of two-hour shows without problem, so I don't know if it related to your problem except by coincidence.

But I always run QuickStream Fix (with filters) on my .dvr-ms recordings first. Otherwise, the playback often stops at commercial breaks due to dimension changes from the program material. So I would recommend that to see if it cures your problem. If I see it again, I will investigate further.

553 has a feature to patch the duration of DVR-MS files with the correct duration. Can you check the videoredo.log file and look for a line that starts with "DVRMS updating file duration to:" and see what value it specifies?

I don't see that entry in my log at all, only one for "Program Duration:". But here is the log for the problem file if you want to look at it. It includes when I ran QSF, and then when I opened the .mpg file to edit it. That is when I noticed the shortfall in time. I think I shut down VRD at that time and did not try to do any editing. I am under the impression that the original .dvr-ms was too short, but I have deleted the original file so can't check it further.

Dan,

Sure enough - both of those files show in the log as "DVRMS updating file duration to: 01:33:19.13" and "DVRMS updating file duration to: 01:32:59.57." True duration of these files are 01:48:15 and 01:48:53, respectively, as now (correctly) reported by Windows Explorer file properties.

For what it's worth, I did not run QSF on these files before editing them.

**Update: I just edited another basketball game that was recorded on an analog tuner (ATI TVW 650), and the duration of the edited file was correct. This may be an issue that only affects HDHomeRun recordings. But the odd thing is that the original file had the correct duration in both of the earlier cases.

Can you email the log file to me at support @ videoredo.com? I'd like to see what's happening.

You've got mail.

As another update, I edited the commercials out of the Super Bowl (HD), and the length in the edited file is correct. This was also recorded with the HDHomeRun, and this is included at the end of the log file I just e-mailed to you.
