When I edit out adverts I would like to be able to insert a one second clip that just says "Adverts Removed" or something like that, so that I know where I have changed things.
Is that possible in VideoReDo?
Thanks
Rob
Yes its possible. You need to first create an MPEG2 file of the clip you want to insert.
Then, I would recommend switching VideoReDo into scene mode. In scene mode you'll be specifying the material to keep rather than the material to remove.
Load your video and specify the first section of program.
Click on Joiner > Add.
Then remove the cut (or simply select Edit-Undo).
Repeat the above for the sections of your program.
Now, load the short insert into VideoReDo. For each occurance you want to add the insert, click on Joiner > Add. I.e. if you have 3 adverts you removed click on Joiner > Add 3 times.
Finally go to Joiner > Edit. There you'll see both your programs clips and the inserts. Move the inserts so that they occur between each clip.
When done, click on Joiner > Create.
That should do it.

That's great! Thanks so much for your quick response. As you may have figured I am a new user but I think that VideoReDo is fabulous.
Now all I need to do is figure out how to make those mpeg2 clips! But I figure that can't be tooo hard. (famous last words)
When you make the clips don't forget to include a sound track even if its silent. Otherwise VideoReDo will start removing video frames to keep the sound in sync.
If you ask nicely on this forum, maybe someone with a standard video editor will make and upload a clip for you :)

I may try I plea for help if I can't figure something out!! In the meantime do I need to create my clips with the same structure as the Sage files I'm editing or will almost any old mpeg2 structure work?
Thanks once again,
Rob
Any old structure should work, but to be sure use the same structure as the Sage file. VideoReDo will show you all the important parameters except for one on the Tools>Show Program dialog. If you are authoring to DVD you'll want to be sure the field order is the same between the clips.
You can use VideoReDo to determine the field order. On Tools>Options>Advanced Stream enable the "Diagnostics" checkbox. Do a simple edit, even a very small section in VideoReDo and save it. Then look at the VideoReDo.log file. You'll see a dump of the video buffer. All the way on the right of each between PTS Diff: and the last number, you might see a the letter "T" and/or "R" and/or "P".
"T" stands for top field first.
"R" stands for repeat frame (used in 3:2 pulldown).
"P" stands for Progressive.
Below if a frame with Top field first:
GOP, temporal: 2, pict Type:1, PTS Diff: -200.00 T 24644
If this all seems too much trouble then just ignore it and give it a try. The worst than can happen is you'll see a momentary studder by your DVD player.
So if you see a "T"

So what do you see if it is a "bottom field first" file?
Showing this flag on the info screen would be great. I just had to redo a bunch of work because I forgot to check.
I have no problems showing the flag, it will just add to the amount of space taken up by the on-screen display. What do others think?
