View Full Version : Re-encoding causes sharpness to fluctuate ...

I have noticed on the last couple of DVDs that I have made (from SD DVB-T sources) that required re-encoding to fit on a single layer DVD, that the sharpness of the image appears to vary about once per second.

The variation is subtle, but is particularly noticable on a textured surface, like the side of a person's face. The detail on their cheek will repeatedly vary from blurred to sharp and back to blurred at about once per second.

Its as if the sharpening algorithm in the re-encoding is only being applied for a few frames each second - is that possible?

Could you trim and copy a 20-30MB segment of the original file and upload it to us? Tools>Trim and Copy Source File

Confirm that the trim and copy segment has the same problem before uploading.
ftp://upload:upload@videoredo.net/

Create a folder with a unique name and place the file in it.

Send an email to Support@VideoReDo.com and let us know when it has been successfully uploaded.

Include the log file as an attachment.

Also include a reference to this topic number: 6305

I have noticed that too when re-encoding from HD .dvr-ms recordings that have been converted to .mpg via QSF. (I never have to re-encode from SD.) The higher the compression ratio, the more the fluctuation. But I don't have any files to send in at the moment.
