Version -555

I have three approximately 45 minute video programs, each about 1.8-1.9 GB. These are to be put on a single layer DVD. This requires re-encoding to lower the bit rate to about 4.4 Mbps to fit on the DVD. I have tried this group of video files several times with the same result each time. TVS terminates wanting to report the problem to Microsoft. The Output window shows 0 time left, but it is still working on the last segment of the third video. It also shows the yellow triangle. If I look in VRD_DVDTEMP, I can see two .tmp files of about 1.3 GB as expected. The third file is about 3.5GB which is way too large, given that the original file started out at less than 2 GB.

I also tried lowering the bit rate to 4.3 to see if that would help, but it still gets stuck.

I tried taking the third file and building a DVD with just that file and it works fine. I then tried forcing the same single file to re-encode to 4.4 Mbps and it still works. It only seems to fail when the three are put together.

I have done a few other DVD with similar construction, but different video files and these have been successful. It seems that just this one combination of files fails to build.

Log is on its way.

I did the following test - I swapped videos 2 and 3 on the DVD and then Created the DVD folders. This was successful. Now I have the videos in the wrong order. Next I opened each title from the created DVD folder and added them a new DVD, this time placing in the desired order.

The new source had been re-encoded to 4.4 Mbps as part of the first DVD Creation process. When I went to Create the next DVD, it stated that it needed to re-encode to 4.4 Mbps for a single layer DVD. I switched to create folder only and generated the DVD. This was successful. I then burned to the DVD without problem.

So, I now have the desired end product. Two issues remain:
1) what caused the oridignal order of videos to fail to create the DVD?
2) Why did the Create DVD process want to re-encode the second time when it was already encoded to fit on a single layer DVD. Note that the green bar did appear larger than a single layer DVD, even though in the end everything fit fine.
