You may or may not know, there is a major update coming for Vista Media Center called Windows Vista Media Center Feature Pack 2008. It's currently at the release candidate stage & the big news is that DVR-MS is out & WTV is in. Bigger then that, it looks like it won't play back in WMP (even on the same machine that it was recorded on), so the changes are more than skin deep.
Is VRD support for WTV on the way?

Is VRD support for WTV on the way?We are unable to comment much about this until the new Microsoft "Fiji" is released.

It's obviously on the radar then - thanks.

Does this consider it released?

Or do we have to wait until CEDIA until your lips loosen?
We are still waiting to get our copy.

Just installed the TV Pack myself, some brilliant improvements but this new recording format is not recognised by VRD - it tells my that elementary streams are not supported. Here's a sample recording in the new format (PAL DVB-T):

Yup, it's a great improvement (you can even have a Freeview tuner and a Cable TV box fed to a PVR150 and, with some editing of channel numbers, be able to see and select both in the TV guide!) but until other apps, specifically VRD, can use the format it's pretty useless and I've rolled back to the standard config. I'm looking forward to being able to use it in my "production" system though, it's really nice.

Is the sample I provided any use? I can provide more if required?
Did you see the PM I sent?

Just wondering if there is any update on Support for the WTV format yet. I am one of those people that " Aquired" the media center update pack and have since been unable to strip out commercials from my recorded content.
All I can say is that we've now assigned a developer to the project. Will keep you posted.

Hallo Chaps!
Any progress on a version of VideoReDo that'll edit the .wtv format yet?
Love the product - works very well for me...up until I "upgraded" to the new TV pack! I'm sure it'll continue to work well too, once you have it sorted.
Thanks.
Just got the links from MSoft today and have asked our DVR-MS expert to start working on it.
Will keep you posted.

Just wondering if there is any more movement, I'm really keen to install TV POack, as it sopunds great but I don't want to at the moment as I may have problems getting the videos onto dvd which I do need to do an awful lot at the moment and as such I don't want to do this, until Videredo supports it as I do use it a lot to get rid of the ads in a lot of the programs I record.
Its been a long and sordid story involving a total machine rebuild, but TVPack is now finally setup here so we can create .wtv files and test VideoReDo on it. Our MCE developer is also setting up his system so he can work on the low-level support. As soon as we have something we will post a request for testers or put it into a beta.

I have nearly 50 gig of WTV files and am chomping at the bit to test. I can understand the headaches. The various scenarious of using programs such as graphstudio have nearly a zero rating on reliablity, if you can get them to work well at all.

I'm also accruing many many Gb's worth of .wtv files and I'm also chomping at the bit to test!
Much much sympathy (and kudos) to the developers, however - the TV pack was a bit of a nightmare for me too! :)

A question purely out of ignorance, but what is the purpose of TV Pack and why use it?

Ah - valid question. The TV Pack allows you to (finally) get HDTV through Media Center and therefore enables DVB-S (and S2) through it as well. The only (?) problem with it - which incidentally wasn't foreseen - was the pain you have to go through in order to get it to work with Freesat....but HD is worth that alone (and of course, the added bonus of 300 new shopping channels to choose from )
There is the issue of the new format of course, but I'm sure that the developers will do a good job. :)

Since posting my question I did find some information about TV Pack and from what I read it was targeted for a few countries outside of the US and is currently limited to its availability. It was not clear if TV Pack will ever be widely distributed. Just one less thing I have to worry about upgrading to.

It is currently limited to OEM build in the UK (I think), at the moment - therefore a bit of a nightmare to setup due to the lack of support. Possibly not worth the effort if you don't live in the UK, I agree!! :-)

Well, I' waiting for Videoredo to support it as it does add several gfeatures which I would find extremely helpful,. it's just a case I don't want to install it unmtil Videoredo supports it to make transfering onto dvd easier and also in case of the license protected file message comes up, being able to run it through videoredo and then add it to dsvd is so helpful.

Any news yet guys? My stack of unedited files is getting bigger! :)
The developer who is working on the reader says he's nearing completion, so its progressing. However until I get working code from him, I can't give you a date. I'm hoping to have something in a couple weeks, but that's still just an estimate.

One thing I read about & I have noticed, my ClearQAM tuner now pulls in 1/3 more channels - including the locals and PBS in HD.
That in itself was a reason I had to try it.
The drawback, .wtv files and no commercial removal via VideoReDo.
Looking forward to any news on the wtv front. :)

I just ordered up an Hauppauge HVR1600 in hopes of getting the ten or so QAM stations in the area. Here's hoping that VRD is .wtv ready when the public beta of Windows 7 is released, reportedly sometime next month. If not, evidentally there are some convoluted ways to convert to mpeg2:
