View Full Version : Distorted playback after DVD conversion

I've converted some DVD's to DVR-MS format with VRD TV Suite 3.1.4.

I just open the DVD and choose save-as .dvr-ms.

Most DVD's converted ok, but I found a few that intermittently show a distored still frame while the movie is playing through it with a lot a artefacts. This lasts for a few seconds after which normal playback resumes.

I play the movie on a Linksys extender. Playing the movie as DVD through My Movies for example shows no problems.

Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening?

thx!

First try the latest release available here:

Tried the latest version, but problems are not solved yet. Recoded Robots which first contained artefacts. Now it looks better, but it doesn't get the whole movie. When it shows 5 min left it suddenly completes decoding. The dvr-ms is half the size of the faulty one, and it stops halfway.

I openen Madagascar and it shows as being a 23min movie. When I convert to dvr-ms the movie starts somewhere 15 mins from the start and after 15 mins it suddenly shows the first 15 min of the movie. It doesn't do this when I play the movie in VRD. Though this problem is different from my initial post.

Tried it with the latest version on a Vista and XP box, and both give me the same results. The decoding process stops around the same piont every time.

Playing the file in VDR shows no problems.

Are you using a trial version?

Do you have a trial key installed?

No I'm not using a trial key. Why, should that matter?

For whatever reason, some DVDs need to be "fixed" before they play nicely in TVS.

When I select quick fix it completes almost instantly with 0 frames processed.

I selected the enable filter and entered a target filename, but no results.

I play the movie on a Linksys extender.
This is the only time you experience the problem?
Playing the movie as DVD through My Movies for example shows no problems.
The .dvr-ms file? Viewing it on the PC?

Maybe explaining your process a little more will help identify what may need to change or pinpoint the problem.

For me, when I need to convert a DVD and TVS can't read it, I use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD to the PC. Use the first six steps of this tutorial (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/guide/dvd-to-ipod/). Even still, some files need to be run through QSF before they play nicely.

Output is limited without a free trial key installed. Help>Request Trial Key

I don't have the problem of limited output to 5 min.

I've ripped a DVD to disk and load it into VDR. I choose save as and save the movie uneditted as a .dvr-ms file. Playing the resulting dvr-ms file on my Linksys extender OR in Windows Media Player displays the same problems. Either:

- distorted playback
- missing parts of the movie. Starting halfway, or swapping beginning and end
- not encoding the entire movie. Stopping somewhere in the middle, or showing a wrong duration directly after opening the DVD files.

There are a lot of movies that did encode correctly though. But I might encounter more problems when Í watch them all.

Try processing the VOB files through QuickStream Fix first, then load the fixed file for editing. Tools>QuickStream Fix

Here is a guide to assist you:

Tnx, I did run Quick fix according to the steps described, but VDR finishes right away resulting in a 0bytes file.

I opened a VOB file and tried saving it as a VOB or MPG file, but both times with the same result.
