View Full Version : Blank thumbnails in Vista MC

My typical workflow is to record on my Vista Ultimate x64 HTPC, transfer over to another PC (XP SP3) where I edit out the commercials and then re-transfer back to the HTPC which plays back fine.

The problem is that although the file is listed under Vista's media centre, the thumbnail is blank. I'm not sure why this occurs, and was wondering if there is a setting in VideoReDo that resolves this. Come to think of it, if you could give me a set of other settings for DVR-MS file editing that would be greatly appreciated.

What version of VideoReDo are you using? Help>About

Try changing "Tag" DVR-MS stream types in Tools>Options>MCE/dvr-ms output.

- I can't find that setting on that screen, and I can't find it elsewhere either.

Try the latest Plus Beta.

It has the setting.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

Any other settings I should apply under options, or should I just leave everything on default? I'm talking about things like editing accuracy, the various stream parameters (e.g. detect/resync missing frames), etc. I'm just editing Freeview recordings which I'll be playing back on Media Centre (and extenders). They'll be archived either locally on the hard-drive or on a server. It's not my intention to create standalone DVD.

Also any general tips on editing would be welcome. In the past I've stared scenes on I-Frame and ended it on the B/P frame.

Some of the other settings are personal preference.

I personally use frame accurate and remove audio frames. You'll find varying opinions from different users.

Since I use frame accurate, I start and end cuts on the frames I want.
