okay, after editing that file I uploaded to you. I used roxio easy cd and dvd creator 7 to authur it to dvd. But now when I play the authured dvd the sound is out of sync. seems to start out ok..but as the show progressed the sounds get more and more out of sync.. is this a roxio issue, or a prob with the output of this prog?

If I remember correctly, your file was recorded with the inverse 3:2 pulldown by the ATI MMC console. Does that sound familiar?

I haven't used DVD creator 7 at all so I can't comment on whether its a general VideoReDo / DVD Creator issue or something specific to your videos. Perhaps some others on the board can comment.

If we don't hear anything, I'll download DVD Creator and try it myself.

Dan,

I have the All in Wonder Radeon 7500. I use the MMC 7.6 or 7.7 I believe. I havent tried Videoredo with those yet because all my problems with sync were always with the WinTV card.
If it would help, I can send you a small clip to determine if it has the inverse 3:2 pulldown and could do some edits and burns with DVD Movie Factory (I don't have the Roxio) to see if its a problem with VideReDo editing. Files are 352X480 - 3000. If this would help let me know.

yes, the file was recorded with a 3:2 pulldown.

guess I could try another authering program..but seeing as how I have roxio already...thought I could get it to work.

I know I used file directed recorded from my ati card, with same specs, without any editing using videoredo and it was totally insync.

phd & frustrated: Let me do this. I have an ATI 9000 AIW, but I don't use it because the MMC won't record the audio from my sound card DAL Carddeluxe. I'll reconfigure things and try to create my own 3:2 pull down material and see what I can find out.

Since I haven't heard any previous feedback, good or bad with VideoReDo and DVD Creator the basic question remains whether its a basic VideoReDo / DVD creator issue or something associated with the 3:2 pulldown.

Here's one more thing to look at. In VideoReDo Tools>Options>General is the Movie Factor compatability options set? If so remove the setting, resave your edits and see what happens.

One more thing, you didnt' say how far or how quickly things got out of sync. Some feedback on that would be useful.

opps, I am using easy cd and dvd ver 6 not 7! I had 7 in mind cause I was just reading about it.

the sync issues I started noticing around 7 - 10 min into the vid. Then it slowly progressed to getting more and more out of sync.

Have you authored any DVD from VideoReDo using this authoring program or is this your first attempt?

this is my first attempt at authoring video outputted from videoredo. I have authored unedited video before with no sync issues.

OK, I'll start looking into it. Please check this setting though:

fustrated, I went to the Roxio site to download a trial of the DVD Creator. They have 2 versions available, 6 & 7. They say to use ver 6 for Win98/ME and ver 7 for Win XP.

Which OS are you using? Is it OK to use ver 6 on XP Pro? I've had a lot of problems in the past with Roxio using non-recommended versions on Windows XP.

they said that? hmm strange when I bought 6 they said it worked fine on xp.

I'm using Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 on XP Pro, its working good unlike previous versions. Not causeing any conflicts on my system anyways.

This is direct paste from the Roxio site:
Easy CD & DVD Creator™ 6

Easy CD & DVD Creator™ 6 is Roxio's first Digital Media Suite™ for Windows® 98SE and Windows ME users. If you own Windows XP or Windows 2000, please purchase the new version of this product - Easy Media Creator 7.

Do you me to experiment with ver 6 or 7?

FYI, I use usually use Nero for burning. For authoring, I've been using: DMF2 and DVDLab for my personal stuff. Also have DMF3 and TmpGenc author for VideoReDo testing.

well since I own 6, experimenting on 6 would be good. I have no plan anytime soon to upgrade to 7 seeing as how 6 is working good on xp.

yeah, I might have to try another authoring program...are any of those you mentioned freeware? spent enough money aftering paying for this prog, with my vid editing budget.

None are Freeware, but they all have 30 day trials. I'll look download Ver 6 later today and start messing around with it. I also have to create some 3:2 pulldown material which I've never done. Hope to have an initial report tomorrow.

okay thanks.

out of the ones you use, what one would you recommend me trying?

My favorite right now is DVDLab. Its strength is the ability to customize the menus and buttons. You can do something similar with Ulead Movie Factory, but you need an additional tool to create new templates and it isn't as convienent.

TMPGEnc DVD author is also excellent, its more wizard oriented than DVDLab, but I bought Movie Factory 2 a year ago which has a similar wizard approach and I'm comfortable with it. TMPGenc has a built in GOP editor as well. TMPGenc DVD seems the most forgiving of stream issues and I find it very useful during testing. I have a few streams from European DVB broadcasts which DVDLab won't open, but TMPGenc will. You can't go wrong with either program. If I were starting out today, I'd probably purchase both TMPGenc for its editing capability and easy wizard and DVDLab for creating fancy DVD menus.

I'm searching for a copy of Roxio DVD Creator 6 to try. Unlike everyone else in the world, they don't have a trial program. In the meantime, I'll create and burn some material with 3:2 pulldown. See if that's an issue.

any demos of 7 avail? maybe it has the same prob.

as for the 3:2 pulldown, I've sucessfully burned one directly after recording it without passing it through videoredo to edit. so if you can find out of videoredo is doing something to the file to make it get out of sync after authoring it to dvd.

I just finished setting up my ATI AIW card and created a file with 3:2 pulldown in it. Now trying it out with VRD. I'll have more on this tomorrow.

There doesn't appear to be any trial versions of DVD Creator 6 or 7 available. But it might be a VRD 3:2 pulldown issue which what I'm checking for first.

Hey Dan, I found a demo for you if you still want to give it a try

head over to the roxio UK site

My version 6 box lists all those OS's INCLUDING XP as compatible and it works fine. I think they want some more money from the upgrade to version 7

Hey Dan, I found a demo for you if you still want to give it a try.No trial there either. The Product Demo doesn't lead you to a download, just a flash tutorial.

Not to worry, I've found an issue with the 3:2 pulldown and one of our beta testers has a copy as well. So at least we've got a good chance of finding it.

I think I've got 3:2 pulldown working pretty good now. Can you give build 220 a try. Its available both on the FTP site (betas folder) and on the videoredo web site at: http://www.drdsystems.com/VideoReDo/download.htm Click the download button on the right.

hey great! Since I lost my original source, I'll have to record somethingelse using 3:2 pulldown and let you know how it goes.
