Hi, I'm new to VideoReDo, I just downloaded the trials of both Plus and TV (not knowing exactly which would best fit me). Hopefully this is not a question that has been asked already, I searched and couldn't find a straight answer.
I recently captured some HD video in ts format and would like to recut and join them together. I know a bit about the I pictures and the issues related to joining clips together. I also heard that VideoReDo does the editing without re-encoding frames. My goal is to achieve just that. I will not accept frames being re-encoded and I can't figure out how to do my cuts in VideoReDo to do this. Everytime I compare the frames (around the cuts) and I know they've been recoded. Can someone tell me how I can set this up so it does not ever recode anything? Or warn me that it's about to do so, etc...
Thanks in advance
Nic
VideoReDo can reencode a few frames around cut points.
Click on the menu: Tools>Options>General Parameters and switch to GOP accurate editing.

The main videoredo.net site has a good comparison between the two versions.
For a broad overview, if you want to readily open content already on a dvd or easily author any of your mpeg projects back onto dvd's then the TV suite is for you.
If you want to do basic editing from video capture sources and use other authoring programs then the Plus suite will work just fine.
If your source material is HD, any of the products will edit them but only the TV Suite will recode back to SD for authoring on a standard DVD.

Thanks for the replies.
I guess "plus" would satisfy me. All I want to do at this point is cut and join clips.
I've already tried the GOP accurate editing but the problem I have with that is that I can still select at a frame level and it doesn't tell me if it's a valid cut or not. How do I know that? I did restart the application and reload my video file.
If you want to cut on I-frames only and see them, set one of your navigatyion options to I-frames. Tools.Options>Navigation
Also, click on the menu: View>Display onscreen information

That's much better, thanks phd.
No I guess I have more questions, sorry...
When I make my selections to cut or trim, does it include the frame at the beginning and at the end of my selection?
So if I select an I frame for the beginning of my selection and an I frame for the end of my selection and cut this part out, wouldn't this break the GOP following my selection (since it is missing its beginning I frame)? To avoid this, should I select the frame preceding the I frame of the end of my selection before cutting?
I guess my question is about how the "GOP accurate" option works and how it handles edits that are not cutting only full GOPs.
Thanks again!

The frame you select at the end of the cut is the first frame that you want to remain in your video. So selecting the I frame at the end is what you want to do.
The selected frame at the beginning is the first frame that you want removed.
So if you want to control where the edits are made, always select on the I frames.
