View Full Version : ULead MF4: HDTV-to-DVD Audio sync fix

I can tell you that the audio/sync problem persists with MF4. This was for a HDTV transport stream converted to MPEG2 with HDTVtoMPEG2. Currently trying out VideoReDo, but I'm afraid the same problem will happen since MF4 will have to resample/re-encode the resulting MPEG2, which will be in HD dimensions, not DVD standard. Is there a way to do the re-size in VideoReDo so MF4 doesn't have to re-encode?

I guess it's VirtualDubMod then. YUK.

Thanks, Dan. One more question: am I correct in guessing that when MF4 resamples/resizes the input MPEG2 I will get audio/video sync problems even if the VideoReDo output MPEG2 file is flawless with regards to sync?

Either that, or ULead gets their act together and gets rid of the sync problem. Just talked to a tech, and he said to check "MPEG Audio as non-compliant". Yeah, right.

You might want to try Xtream from Mediostream. Edit in VRD and reencode with Xtream. Can resize, change 4:3 to 16:9 and vice versa. Free trial but it watermarks the output. Very fast and very good so far. Seems to create a compliant MPEG that DMF can handle. At least in my tests using DMF 2 and 3.

If that's really the case with DMF4, then they took a giant leap backwards. The only way I got previous versions to work without audio sync problems was to make sure they were compliant and check "Do not convert compliant..." That sounds like a sack of crap.

Thanks, phd. Now, that's 1,2,3... that's right 4 applications: 1 to capture, 1 to cut/edit, 1 to re-size, and 1 to burn. I think I'm beginning to understand why the tweaker crowd goes with ProjectX, AVISynth, VirtualDubMod, and DVDRipper. There's really no way to get around this maze of software and configurations, is there?

Others have good things to say about some other DVD authoring programs. That would keep it at 3. Rather than spend the money on another fix (Xtream.)

Its been quite a while since I tested any of the freebie options. They either were too slow or didn't work So I spent the money.

See about a refund for DMF 4 and invest it elsewhere. Although I've never heard anyone on the Ulead forum say they got a refund.

i'd rather have several different programs which CAN DO PERFECTLY what i need them to do, than several programs which claim to be able to do everything, but fail at the end, like eg the Ulead Software. Ulead sucks tbh. they have no dvd/video program that actually works as it should. what do i need all that gui and templating and motion thumbnail menus when at the end my videos are out-of-sync?

there are only a few programs i trust absolutely:

VideoReDo
DVDDecrypter
TmpgEnc DVD Author
DVD-Lab Pro

Like you, I, too, have had my fill of Ulead products. THANK GOD for VideoReDo!

I notice you've indicated you make use of TWO seperate authoring programs, TDA and DVD-Lab Pro. I've been using a trial version of DVD-Lab Standard and expect to make the official purchase later today. I've also downloaded the 30-day trial of TDA with the intent of trying it but have not yet installed it. Since you make use of both authoring programs, I wonder if you'd be willing to share your thoughts about them. For example, what factors determine which program you might elect to use? And, if you wouldn't mind, can you elaborate a bit on the strengths you find each program might have over the other.

If it may help, my needs are somewhat simple. I capture analog cable TV programs, cut commercial ads, author and burn. I use my ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT video card for capturing, VideoReDo for editing and DVD-Lab (Standard) to author. Since many of my "projects" are often somewhat large, (i.e. I frequently combine more than one video to create 2-4 hours of video) I compile the authored project directly to a hard drive and use DVD Shrink to fit the project on a DVD-5. Thanks to VideoReDo and DVD-Lab, much of my DVD-making is now a relatively smooth process. But, since I hear so much about TDA, I do wonder what advantages TDA might have over DVD-Lab.

Can you share some of your thoughts and experiences?

Thank you, Harry.

frankhad, I have a question for you. How does DVDLab deal with non-DVD compliant MPEG2's? The problem I'm having right now has to do with using VideoReDo to convert an HDTV stream to MPEG2, but the result is still not 720x480 (or another DVD compliant dimension), so I lose audio/video sync in MovieFactory 4. Wondering whether DVDLab will be better at this.

I wish I could help you but I don't have a clue. ALL of my captured videos are standard 4:3 mpeg captured from analog cable TV.

eswrite, I don't have any HD material to try with DVDLab, but I have used it to put SVCD on DVD. When you do this, you are warned that not all players will not play it, but it will let you do it.
