does anyone know if a VOB Frameserver exists?

i.e. a tool which is a layer between a DVD (ifo + multiple vobs) and an editing program (like VRD) and which fakes a whole VOB file (with a certain selected audio stream) instead of multiple splitted VOBs.

actually a frame-by-frame server wouldn't be appropriate. it should be more like a VOBserver

Harry, Why don't you use DVDDecryptor in IFO mode to extract a whole title into a single file?

time, disc space, decrypting, ...

with a combination of anydvd and such a layer i could edit the file directly off from the dvd.

if i want a music clip now i always have to rip the whole dvd. with such a layer i could explicitly choose the 200 mb i want immediately.

Harry, have you tried the "Set start/end frames" feature in DVDShrink? Go to reauthor, drag the title with the clip to the compilation frame, right click on the tile and select "Set start/end frames". Select the audio streams you want, and set compression to "No compression". Then click on Backup. You get a DVD structure, but if your authoring program accepts VOBs, you're all set.

The only problem is that start and end must be on I-frames.

DVD Decrypter will also export individual chapters if you know which one you want. Non-graphical interface.

For non-copyprotected DVDs, WinDVD Copy has a graphical user interface that will allow you to preview what you want to extract.

Also, DMF can extract segments of a non-protected DVD to your hard drive as well. Surprisingly, this seems to be the one function in DMF (extracting DVD to hard drive) that appears to maintain audio sync with no extra effort! (Or at least not that I noticed on my machine. Your mileage may vary)

thanks guys, i know how to get to the separate streams by doing some manual work. i only thought it might be more comfortable having such a layer between a dvd and the mpeg editor or player.

it's same as with graphics formats. i wonder why it isn't possible in windows to have a common layer between image files and the graphics programs. so there would be no need for every graphics program to implement each graphics filter themselves.
