View Full Version : MPEG conversion to ASF wrapped ISO MPEG-4 Video V1 IMA ADPCM

Further to my previous post, I've dug around a little more and found the format of the ASF wrapped video files my portable media player uses for video.

Using Windows Media Encoder, I can successfully encode video in a format the PMP is happy to play. It doesn't get aspect ratios in the files, though - so I'd have to either mess around with the vertical geometry (is there any obvious formula for that, given varying aspect ratios of the source - the player wants video resolutions of 320 x 240.

Otherwise for widescreen sources, I'd have to encode black bars in the encoded ouput - is there any way of doing that?

As a plus, Windows Media Encoder manages to produce video within a reasonable timeframe.

Now to the audio, I don't yet have any means of encoding the audio, apart from the conversion software supplied - and that runs *forever*. Everything converted or directly recorded by the device is mono, too. I don't know whether the codec / format only supports that, but is there any obvious way of converting audio to IMA ADPCM - preferably within Windows Media Encoder (as that's happy to do the video), such that I can produce a video file outside of the supplied conversion software?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
