Thread: Upgrade problems

    Default Upgrade problems

I upgraded VRD from 629 to 635 and VAP from 096 to 101. I immediately starting getting VRD crashes when VAP tried to run VRD. One crash seems to be immediately after VAP starts processing the file although it usually does process the file after I close the system crash message (although one time the mpg file got left in the QSF directory rather than being transferred to the output folder). The other crash happens VRD goes to run the Ad Scan.

My input files are TiVo and WTV and it happens with both. All I do with VRD is a QSF to convert the file to mpg and run Ad Scan to produce a Drax chapter file.

The VRD change logs so a number of changes effecting the COM interface, and since the COM interface has caused you problems before, it seems like a likely suspect.

When I get a chance, I'll rollback to my previous VRD version and see if the problems go away.

Have you considered everything suggested here?:

I uninstalled 635 and reinstalled 629. VAP 1.01 runs like a champ with it. Which would seem to say the problem is in the COM interface given that the VRD GUI doesn't seem to have the issue.

I'd post the issue in the VRD beta section of the board but, since I don't know how VAP actually invokes the interface, I can't really explain it so the report would have more weight coming from you. Or if you don't have time to replicate the problem, I'll give it a go if you can point me to the code snippets that invoke the COM interface and I'll post them with my report.

    Thanks, Bill

Not to be nit-picky but have you considered everything in the sticky thread I linked in post #2 ? Also consider items 5-8 in the new sticky thread about troubleshooting info:

I have not done everything because I didn't see it before I made my post. The only one of the things on the list I normally do is (1).

I want to let my processing backlog clear before I give 635 another try but I'll try it with the items you list.

So you are using 635 with VAP without any problem?

Yes. Here's something else to try:

Also take a look in this thread:
    http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/sh...ad.php?t=28273
    starting at post #26.

I don't know if it's real or not but it sure seems like more people are having problems with registry and COM related problems after updating to the latest VRD builds.

It's definitely real! I've reinstalled both 635 and VAP that many times and every time I get errors with initialisation of the Video. I'm tired of it. Gone back to 629b which works flawlessly everytime... jordy

I followed all the debugging steps and it seems to be working. Or at least it has worked for one show. I've started reprocessing a bunch of older files to give it a better workout and will let you know if I see any more problems.

    Thanks,
