VAP Stalling Since 4/1

I've had VAP running extremely cleanly and trouble free for a couple of weeks now. But since April 1, only 2 out of 8 video files successfully converted. The remaining files all "stalled". I haven't changed anything in VRD, VAP or my operating system since that date; so I'm unsure what happened.

I've attached my log file hoping that will help explain it. Sorry -- I had to zip it in order to get it to pass forum rules.

Well something must have changed --- we just don't know what it was.

What model TiVo are you using? How about the .tivo files themselves? Are the programs that stall the same ones that used to be OK? If you're using a Tivo Elite do you transfer the Program Stream or the Transport Stream versions of the files? In TiVo Desktop, if you select fast transfers you get the Transport Stream versions.

What VAP version are you using?

I would be interested in item 3 (file info) for (1) a file that stalls and (2) a file that doesn't stall. Also excerpts from the VRD log (item 8).

If you duplicate your process flow (QSF then AdScan) manually using just VRD (no VAP) what happens (using a file that stalls in VAP)?

I tried re-running one of the stalled files in VRD manually and it worked just as expected -- no errors. Here is the log file entry of the stall for that same file:

I see nothing in any of that info to explain a VRD stall on the AdScan.

You are using an old version of VRD. I suggest you upgrade to the latest beta version before any further testing, here:
http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=6972
and see if that fixes the problems. Be sure to completely uninstall your current version before doing that.

If the new VRD version doesn't fix things:
What output type do you have selected?

Please re-process the file that stalled and while it is doing the QSF, click the "Stop after VRD" button. What file do you find in the TempQSF folder after processing stops? See if you can load that file into VRD and do the AdScan manually.

Also, load the original input file into VRD and save just a short clip, perhaps a minute or so. Then see if that clip causes a stall when you run it through VAP. If it does, I would like to get a copy of that clip if possible, plus the file named "arglog.txt" taken from your VAP data folder immediately after the stall. The VAP data folder is found by opening a command window and entering: echo %APPDATA%\VAP

About the version; I'm using VideoReDo TVSuite, not Plus. I think I'm using the most current version of that product 3.20.2.609 (although it hasn't been updated in a very long time).

Output type is set to mpeg2.

I'll try the tests you suggested tomorrow and get back to you on the results.

It is build 629 so I would recommend you try it. Many fixes in the 1.5 years since the version you are using. I don't know why VRD is delaying so long with a new official release.

All is good once again. I updated VRD to the version you recommended. While I was at it, I also updated VAP from 1.00 to 1.01.

I moved all of the previously stalled files back into the monitored folder and they all processed without a hitch.

I spoke too soon :-( Programs are still stalling with some regularity.

Since my last post 3 out of 7 programs ended up in the Stalled folder. But it's really hard to diagnose because if I move the files back into the monitored folder, they process the second time with no problems at all. Thus I haven't found a program that will consistently fail.

For the moment (until I can find a program that consistently fails) I guess I'll just keep an eye on the stalled folder and manually move them back into the monitored folder.

Any thoughts though what might be causing this?

VAP automatically should move stalled programs back into the monitored folder for one retry. Is that not happening or are you moving them back for an additional retry?

I also notice that it always fails on the Ad Scan; not on the QSF.
